Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I recently bought a set of Campy Neutron Ultras for a little over $600. Hand-built by Italian elves and right at ~1500g. The advantage for the Vitesse is the 23mm width. Mounting Contis on these wheels is challenging to say the least. Check the prices here:

OP, is that price for the C24 9000 series? If so then yes they are 11spd compatible and future forward thinking and you will use a spacer. If this model at 720 then I would jump on it (and ill ask where you got them and are there any more !) if they are the previous version (7900 or similar series) then the price is still decent but no spacer necessary as they are built for 10spd and will not work if you eventually go 11 (unless they come out with a new free hub and re-dish your wheel)

For a $1,000 you can get carbon wheels like Williams or Mavic Cosmic (on sale)

The carbon look better are lighter and are more aero.

Wiggle.com

12-extra to get it down to $720 shipped. I got mine there.

Huh - it's never even crossed my mind that there are Campy wheels with Shimano hubs.

See, OP - this is the trouble that you get in to with a bunch of gear addicts that are spending your money -

OP - I want to spend about X.

Addict 1 - yeah, but for 1.2X, these are much better!

Addict 2 - well, if you're going to spend 1.2X, you might as well get these at 1.5X! Superior in every way!

Addict 3 - meh - I wouldn't spend 1.5X when the unobtainium package is only 2X. Buy right and you'll only buy once!

Woe is you!

Yeah - now I am considering wheels I hadn't been looking at before. There's too many to choose from!

Now I am looking at the 9000 c24 for $720 - my only concern is that the wheel doesn't have the wider rims and have a low spoke count - should I even worry at 165 lbs?

Still looking at Boyd Vitesse, ROL Race-SL, and Soul s2.0. Also stumbled on a set of fulcrum racing zeros for $800. Oh yeah the November 38mm full carbon set at $890 is also tempting - but maybe a little much for an everyday wheel.

Re the C24 weight concerns...don't have them. I rode 7900 C24 for 2-3 years at over 180 pounds...Shimano doesn't list any limits.

Re the November 38mm carbon clinchers....their website says they are sold out at that closeout price.

Well that makes things a little easier - didn't notice they were sold out.

Fair enough. I didn't realize carbon wheels were that much, my bad

They don't cost that much $1,000 (for both) +/- unless you are talking Zipp.

FLO wheels all the way. Uber low cost, lots of recent reviews, and current aero data.

Get in on it.

Documentation? According to:

https://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont...h_road%7C.html

they're 20.8mm external, 15mm internal. "Wide" is usually 23mm external, 19mm internal.

And again, let me throw these out there:

https://www.zencyclery.com/katmandu-custom-wheelset.html

XC279 rims (nice and wide), White Industries T11 hubs, CX-Ray spokes. $670 for 20/20 spokes, going up reasonably for more spokes. Future-proof against 11-speed, and a Ti hub body that your cassettes won't chew up.

If I were in the market for new wheels (I'd love to be, but hard to justify the $$ at the moment), I'd also check here: https://www.psimet.com/.

Looks like he takes a good look at you, how you plan to use your wheels, and what you expect of them. I like that idea, personally. Then he custom builds based on that info, which seems like a good idea. Not sure what his prices are like, but it would be worth looking into, IMHO. Like you wanted yet ANOTHER option, right, lol!

Thanks for the correction. Not sure why I thought they were 23mm.

Np. On further looking, the C50s are 23mm, 17mm internal:

https://www.shimano.com/publish/conte...-.wh_road.html

So you probably saw that and figured it applied to the whole clincher line. Which is a reasonable assumption; I don't know why they'd bother with a narrower extrusion for the 24s. Maybe they figure for the shallow wheels people will want to save a few grams?

I pulled the trigger on the C24s! I ended up getting the wheels, a pair of GP4000s tires, and 5 tubes for under $800 bucks.

Please give us a review when they arrive! I'm about to do the tires/ tubes deal myself. Fantastic.

Neuvation
Shimano RS-80
Mavic Equipe / elite
Fulcrum
Reynolds

someone posted a busted spoke story on the boyds not too long ago.
