Just got my windsor

Hey everyone just got my new Windsor the hour plus in. It's great so far but at some point I would like to upgrade some parts. I believe I will upgrade the wheelset first. I would like to build a lighter wheelset but i need some recommendations on lighter parts. I have a budget of about $300 for the wheelset. The Bike already has formula hubs on it so I should just Upgrade the spokes and rims I guess. Also looking for a lighter crankset.

Have you taken the crankset off and weighed it? What makes you think you need a lighter one?

Do you know how to lace a wheel? (it is a rhetorical question)

Now onto an actual question that I am looking for answer from you for: Why are those lighter parts going to be better?

No I can't lace a wheel but have a good friend that can. Correct me if I'm wrong but less rotational weight will help me climbing hills. I mountain bike the majority of the time and when I upgaded my wheelset to a lighter one I could climb hills much easier

Wrong. Rotational inertia matters only when you are accelerating, such as speeding up from a stop. So wheel weight is no more important than other component weights when climbing. Also, your own weight is far more important than bike weight, since it is the majority of the total weight. It always cracks me up when I see some obese out of shape person riding an uberlight weightweenie bike.

You are more likely to notice the reduced wind resistance of the Mavic Ellipse than the differences in weight. But like I said, if you want a nice lighweight wheelset that doesn't break the bank, just get the Wabis.

I would change the brake levers because BD brilliantly spec'd long-pull lever for regular short-pull road brakes. Genius!

The Wabis are black with silver machined braking surfaces.

I second the wabi recommendation. I have a set and they have stayed true in NYC for 2+ years.

One more thing I had looked at the regular windsor hour but they were out in my size so I just ordered the plus instead thinking they were the same frame. Now that I've looked at them again I realize the head tube is higher on the plus than the other what is suppose to be the advantage of this?

I don't know about advantage or disadvantage, but it's slight more comfortable and less aerodynamic to be higher up like that.

That said, I don't know that difference is going to be that significant, seeing as how you can just bend your arms to get lower... Not familiar with the Windsors, though...

I'm in the same boat: Went to order a windsor the hour (no plus) and was all out of my size once I put it in the cart.

The Windsor the Hour Plus looks heavier to me. Is this the case? Any idea what your bike weighs?

longer headtube means that you can set the bike up to be a more relaxed upright position. Most people attempt to do this normally with spacers bringing the stem higher, this will bring the stem up without using spacers (but you can still use spacers).

Well I weighed it using the bathroom scale method and it came out to 25lbs. Today is my first at off from work so I am going to take it out about 15 miles or so and see how it does.

Thanks, yeah tell me how it is.

I'm considering getting a fuji track, which is the same frame as the no plus Windsor the Hour but with a little bit better components.
It cost $440 + tax though. Maybe I can work out a deal with the Local Bike Shop though...

Well sorry to say the bike did poorly over the longer ride. Even after iIhad tightened everything. The bottom bracket creaked asas well as the headset. The frame is great but the components suck! I'm going to return it and just stick with the road conversion I built. If I were you I would go with the Fuji if it as better components

Or possibly you suck at wrenching? Are the chainring bolts tight? When you say you "tightened everything" that means that you removed and regreased all the components right? Especially the cranks and bottom bracket? Bikes Direct is not exactly known for doing an excellent job setting up a bike before mailing it. When you say the "components suck" what exactly are you referring to? You said you wanted to spend money on "components" so why have you changed your mind?
