1985 Peugeot. Is this a good deal?
Found this bike today on Craigslist and was wondering if anyone could give me any opinions on it. Since I am 6'1"-6'2" it has been hard to find a bike that fits me that is within my budget. I can't really tell if there is a lot of work that needs to be done on this yet (I would bring it to a bike shop to verify any work that it needs). I was just hoping you all could help me figure out if this is a good deal or not.
Thanks much!

Well I don't know your market, but that would seem rather high to me. Its made of carbolite, which is a couple steps about plain steel, but not much. The Sachs Huret derailleur is functional, but not high end. I would pass at that price.

biggest issue with French bikes is part interchange, i.e. you may have to look for specific french threaded parts which can be a major hassle. No idea about peugot values but found a similar one next to a dumpster one day. Your area is expensive but I personally would not pay more than 100+- for it.

That's way too overpriced. I agree with the other responses. It is a decent bike but certainly not high end and not worth $285. Where I live, that kind of bike would be worth around $80.

It's basically a nice bike. It has forged rear dropouts with the derailleur tab and HLE steel tubing. This is a step above the usual Carbolite high tensile framed Peugeots and if you search the Forums you will find a group of appreciative owners. The price is excessive for the bike as is. The original dropped bars are gone but it does have quick release, alloy rimmed wheels. You might want to go in at $150. Regarding French threading and parts compatibility issues, by the 80s Peugeot had largely switched over but even if yours isn't, French stuff is still accessible on the Internet. If the bike is a good size for you, consider it.

I think that it is a great price to sell a bike like that for, but too much money to buy one for.
And location is critical.

Still learning
I think it is a 1985 PH10LE. In condition as shown it is worth as @bertinjim opined, about $150. From the photos; mismatched tires, fork badly scratched, both the RD and rear brake cable housing/cable appear to be too short.
As to @dailycommutes concerns about French parts, by 1985 the parts matched industry standard threading and diameters.

You indicate you would take it to a bike shop to see if it needs work. Even if you bought it for $100, (highly unlikely) and pay a shop you are upside down on it. Just keep looking unless you like upright bars and can hypnotize the seller into a much lower price.
