Today, 2/28, is the last day of "Meteorological Winter." What does that mean? Not much. It means that the calendar is about to flip to March, the beginning of "Meteorological Spring" defined by being March, April and May of each year.
If it doesn't feel like it, that's because the beginning of "Astronomical Spring" - the Spring Solstice on March 20 - is roughly three weeks away

I was wrong and I’ll admit it. That, however, doesn’t make my entire point wrong. For those who might work and live in Bangor, Maine, adding an hour year around would still mean that the sun is set by the time they get off work and, if they work a regular 8 to 5 schedule, they would arrive at work before the sun rises. I lived through the year around daylight saving time in the 70s. It was not fun to arrive at work long before the sun rose.

You say that as if December 23 and March 23 weren't also completely arbitrary.

Thank you, Daylight "Saving" Time, for stealing an hour from me this morning. They need to re-name this idiocy "Daylight Stealing Time".
