I can dream...

I wish I could ride every day, notwithstanding recovery time. I look at potential rides and routes from Strava and other sites, both gravel and tarmac and try to plan on the weekends. But life always seem to get in the way: errands, something comes up, spousal requirements, etc. Sigh.

So I mix running (5 miles) and short rides (15-20 miles) on the weekdays with longer rides on the weekends (50+ miles) which are limited by spousal time constraints. I would love to do multi-day rides going for 200+ miles. I can dream...

Get your husband/wife bike riding. Start simple and short and let it grow on him/her.

if you have the ability to use some vacation days, that might be your personal outlet to achieve the 200+ miler rides you wish to seek. Kinda what I do in the current times. All the places I'd traveled to prior to 2019 are now of no interest to me, so it leaves more riding time on the table. lose/win I suppose.

She can't ride; I think she has some kind of imbalance issue. We tried a tandem bike and she hated it...

A recumbent trike might work if balance is an issue.

How old are you?

Plan for retirement and then you'll have more time to ride.

This. Or just wait until you have been married long enough, and spouse will be happy to see you head out on 5-hour rides.

I've been married 38 years and retired the past 4. This June my wife is retiring and i have a feeling my 'free" time is going to take a hit.

She needs her own hobby. I suggest you send her here.

Did she ride in the front or back of the tandem?

Don't buy her the bike you would like if you were her size; buy her a bike she would like, for example:

Electra Loft 7D Women's Bike | REI Co-op

She rode in the back...and yes, I would do flips if she told me she wanted to buy a bike...I'd get her whatever she wanted, at any cost...(she makes more than me - lol...).

My bike
My wife and I have a similar bike disparity issue; that is why I also have a hybrid bike to ride with her and/or my son.

I have never tried a tandem but somehow I doubt that a non-cyclist riding in the back of one would develop an interest in cycling.

Buy her a bike that she would like (see the one I linked to above) and ride with her at her pace, maybe to a local coffee shop (outdoors and only if both of you are vaccinated), with the assumption that she would never go on a multi-hour ride with you. But at least she might develop an appreciation of why you enjoy cycling.

My wife encourages my riding because I am a fatso and it is the only exercise I do.

I'll retire from the military next September at 48 after 21 years. Have my dream bike currently on order and plan on riding my bike lots and lots and lots.

Let’s see...

You put on about a 100+ miles a week while being employed full time.

You are going to retire at 48 and buy your dream bike and ride lots and lots.

Your life is a lot of people’s dream.

I hear you. Also lost a beloved son a few years back - stupid accident. But I am grateful for everything I have and have experienced. I have no complaints other than a wife who doesn't ride...
