@clubman: what is the significance of the "40"? I originally thought it had to do with the town but same number different locations.....

Of course this is just before or at the same time they were being 'borged' by Raleigh

my 1987 Hetchins Magnum Opus....
The bike has the "vibrant" (i.e. curly) chainstays and seatstays and crazy/ornate lugs, so the head badge is a bit redundant.

I lost this badge whilst repainting the bike. I was devastated. I looked for it for hours and hours but no luck. Six months later I was doing a deep clean and was about to tip one of many a scoopful of floor crap into the bin wherein I spotted the missing badge. I think I even shed a tear of joy.
