Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This animal is sleek and well cared for. The bait would have to be better than it can get at home, I assume. Maybe a booby-trapped sparrow would work better.

This is worth a try, I would go with cooked, myself. A nice cooked chicken drumstick should work also, they’re carnivores, even more so than dogs.

The problem that we had trapping cats was that we caught a few animals that we didn't want to catch like a red fox one time.

We have fox, but are more likely to catch rats. Had to remove our bird feeders because of them.

I was scared that we would catch a skunk. We also trapped a 'possum once.

The worst we caught , though, was a large, mangy tomcat. I didn't even want to pick the cage up.

Cats still will get birds with a bell. Not to mention the collars for which the bells attached have a half-life of about 4 days. My wife now buys "industrial size" packages of collars with bells. Latest purchase was 12 collars. I expect it may last 2 months, being that is winter.

No idea where all those collars go Think I found one or two in the last year.

I imagine putting a bell on a cat is like recycling. It makes us FEEL good, that we are doing something beneficial for the planet, but the reality is that it doesn't make much of a difference. Sad!

Getting there. 3 wheels shy of a full deck (there is one more with no wheels at all).

Howdy folks. We just booked tickets for this South African vacation we'd planned a while back (2 weeks, staying at a safari lodge for one, staying in Capetown for another). Exciting stuff.

For this sort of trip, would you seasoned travelers recommend some sort of travel insurance coverage? We're flying Qatar, they don't offer any policies for American customers, and we do have some protection on the credit card we used to book the trip but it isn't comprehensive. We've gone abroad without any sort of travel policy before, but I guess wifey is more worried with the baby in case she gets sick (she's staying in the states, we'd be leaving her with in-laws).

Yes, I would recommend insurance. Depending, of course, on what your card covers.

I usually am going for ground hogs in mine, but haven't needed to in a couple years. My dog Sadie took care of the last two I had and I think the word went out in the varmint press not to mess around in Sadie's property. She was no joke, I can only hope Venus lives up to her legacy.

It's like 'the wilds' around my place sometimes, I've caught squirrels and a skunk once. One year Sadie's predecessor, Moose, caught a groundhog but didn't finish the job and the critter managed to make it back to his den. Two days later I had vultures sitting in the tree right over the den where the groundhog apparently expired from his injuries, trying to figure a way to get to it.

I just saw a patient named Suzanne. It got me hearing the famous Leonard Cohen song. I mentioned it to my nurse (who is 50) and the patient (who is in her 70's) and NEITHER of them were familiar with it.

Sad!

It's one of the most beautiful songs I know.
