Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this like a random thread for posting anything? The title has nothing to do with either football or falling off a bike.

Way back in the day, it was about patentcad and his bike schwag/cult of personality.

But it has morphed and is now a bit of a moving target.

Pitt is a very good school and the cost savings are substantial. Has she visited the campus?
I know that and you know that. I am hoping she will reach that conclusion without us having to force it on her. She did see the campus but that was 3 years ago when we were doing college tours for daughter 1. So a second look visit may be in her future.

As was alluded to but not stated, the original "Addiction" was about patentcad's then-new Scott Addict. People started posting a lot of random stuff in it, and it turned into a banter thread.

During football season, there's a lot of football talk. There's family talk, and talk about travel and children and cameras and kitchen knives and bears and anything else random going on. And hand-wringing about bike and non-bike purchases. Back years ago there was endless talk about my dating life, until that finally got sorted out. That was six and a half years ago, for perspective.

There are a lot of in-jokes (one of which is "hi! what's this thread about?"), and people come and go throughout the years, sometimes multiple times. We haven't had a whole lot of new folks come and stay for even a while in recent years, so it's nice to get some interest since I said that. Welcome!

I'd rather not go to Pitt, personally, but it's awfully hard to recommend NYU under the circumstances. I assume Pitt is good for her major and she had enough interest to apply. Medicine?

If I could go back, I'd apply to UT-Austin, CU-Boulder, UT-Chattanooga, and other schools in cities I could see myself living in.

It’s complicated. No interest in medicine. She wants to study English and film because she likes to read books and watch movies. From that perspective I can see the allure of New York City and NYU. But she is very 18 and who knows what she will decide long-term. We need to find a balance of what is best for her. Stay tuned.

Time to ride. The roads are wet but it’s sunny and still reasonably warm for January.

Ok, so it's like an inside thread? Idk if I'll stick around, seems like a thing for the veterans of BF.

Also is it purposely misspelled as 'Addition' like as in addition, subtraction, division, etc...?

My roads are snow packed but it appears that weathergeddon was fake news. I doubt that we got 3” of snow, let alone the ice and other cataclysmic things that were forecast.

3” snow? Not worth getting DougRNS’ plastic shovel out.

Ah, that makes sense. I was guessing med because I believe they both have premier med programs, which would at least have an argument for future earnings. English and film... I love both of those, but I'd side with you here and it's not close.

Well, you’re inside it now, aren’t you? Might as well stay around, absorb the vibe, etc.

Several years ago, I corrected a misspelled word and was informed that spelling was not only overlooked here, but expected.

In my case, I appreciate occasional bike talk just to justify things.

In addition lots of nice photos get posted occasionally, especially bird photos.

Welcome to the thread, it’s not just for veterans by any means. And the misspelling is intentional but will be corrected eventually.

Also, pay no attention to Velo Vol, he’s the resident comedian.
