EDIT: rain quit this afternoon and the roads dried up , I was able to get in my full ride (for me) this evening.

Everytime I tried to start to ride this morning, it started sprinkling.
Finall I look out my window and see sunshine.
By the time I got to the garage and got my helmet and gloves on the sunshine was gone , but I took off anyway .
I got in 2.5 miles before the big drops started falling as I was pedaled fast toward the garage .
Barely made it before the bottom dropped out .
When the rain stops , if the road dries up enough , I’ll try to get the other half of my ride in .

Ultimate goal is to literally drop out of the Clydesdale club!!

I won't make a thousand, but that's okay - let me see what I can accomplish before month's end. It rained every day in VA, so no miles.....And now, hot and humid as **** back here in FL! Someone can check to see if 5/18 was the last day I rode before yesterday and today.

I am quite impressed with the mileage everyone has hit this month! Billions and billions of calories burned! Unfortunately in FL the heat index is now well above 100 this time of year.........

First couple weeks of May were going great, exceeding my mileage goals, then I ruined one of my hydraulic brake calipers while doing a handlebar swap that required me to disconnect the lines and bleed them later. I wedged the pistons open too forcefully and at an angle and apparently damaged the seal, because it was leaking mineral oil after that. Replacement part showed up 7 days later, so I got it installed, did a couple check rides while adjusting things, and have gotten five more days of riding in, including a 50-miler that's the longest ride I've done since I came back last year.

MTD: 403.2 miles (my May goal was a conservative 400 miles, so that's already been exceeded with three more riding days left in the month, even with one down week)
YTD: 1091 miles. My goal for this year is 4000 miles, so I'm 537 miles behind the yearly goal pace right now, though that number is dropping rapidly with each new ride. I'm optimistic about reaching the yearly goal.

Missed my March and April goals so decided I wasn't going to post this month unless I hit at least 100 miles - and I wanted to post. Rain and pandemic-induced depression tried to get me again this month, but I finally broke 100 miles today. Posting will resume .

Not sure how many more miles I’ll get in this month, I clipped a pole and took a spill at 11 miles into today’s ride. The knee that wasn’t road-rashed felt worse than the one that got all the abrasions, but not until about 35 miles later. Going to skip riding tomorrow and give it a chance to heal. On the positive side, I have helmet-cam video of the whole thing
so I can relive it whenever I want (Oh, boy!).

Ended up short of 150 . I’m setting my monthly goal @ 125 for the rest of the year . That should put me over 1500 for the year . I can deal with that, I hope
EDIT: I went back to January’s posts and my yearly goal was 1500 miles . I think that’s still possible. Of course I’ll always be trying to beat my goals .
Another EDIT : my wife reminded me May has 31 days , so I got another day tomorrow to ride this month . My old timers kicking in . LOL !

MTD 753 miles

Ultimate goal is to literally drop out of the Clydesdale club!!

Nice Hawthorne Trail ride today - I love this ride! Relatives visiting, so no chance to get out on 5/29. A bit of homework left to hit 800 - but very doable if I can get out before the pesky storms. Can't dwell mileage lost in May because of the weather in VA - it was no fun sitting at home watching it rain day after day.....

But forget about me......what I wanna see is if MattTheHat gets 1,000! I'm pulling for 'ya, fella! And Cyclist2000 - you can go golfing tomorrow!

I should make it. I’ll do a night ride tonight which should leave me with about 35 to go. The wife and I have a little adventure ride of about 20 miles planned for the morning. She’s ridden that far before but the ride was kind of centered on the house, so we were never far from home. 20 Miles on a heavy 7-speed town bike is a pretty respectable ride for someone who has ridden a bike less than 150 miles in her whole life. Apples and apples would have me riding a 70 pound bike. I’ll try to scare up a pic or two.

I really like these threads. You see folks in all degrees of fitness with varying types of riding experience all logging their miles and sharing their experiences. Failures and successes. Have you noticed there are no cat-like comments in these threads, unlike many other BF areas? It’s just a bunch of folks encouraging one another to get out and enjoy life. Ride 1,000 miles, ride 100, we don’t care. Heck, sneak on in with fewer than 100 miles and you’ll be just as welcome.

Thanks, folks. It’s a pleasure hanging out with you all.

That’s exactly what I love about this thread. Some will reach 1,000, some 100, and others, even less. But it’s not a contest, it’s about challenging yourself.

With the exception of getting caught in lightning, hitting heavy rain and high winds, or getting more than two flats during a ride, I always manage to enjoy my time on a bike....and if that’s the whole point of riding, that’s great.

I was goading you, knowing that it’ll take hell and high water to prevent you from meeting your goal. I kinda like that you kept up the suspense for us folks here.

I have the same issue with my wife and her Trek town tank, LOL!

With the exception of flats (I *hate* flats...tubeless fixed that for me) all the other stuff kind of just adds to the adventure. A couple of weeks ago I took a night ride. I was riding towards an incoming storm that I wondered if I'd run into. I almost did. About ten miles out, one strike hit about 2-3 miles away and I immediately turned around to head back. I was moving faster than the storm, so I wasn't too worried, and I could have always pulled off and found some shelter. No biggie, but it was a little exciting for a few minutes.

Thanks for the goading. It actually made me smile.
