A plane crash and a sewage spill! What a mess. Lucky to be alive, those two. Next time you're up there, check out how good or bad of a job they did cleaning up the poop.

Yeah, I'm thinking we'll avoid that particular spot for a week or so. I know exactly where it is. We walk right past it every morning during the week because she can be off the leash.

The trail is a good 1/4 mile from the crash site, so it shouldn't be affected at all.

I walked the dog down there this morning, but didn't make an effort to go near the crash site. There were a bunch of workers over there anyway. Probably cleaning up the poo.

You are on the bus when you suddenly realize ... you need to fart.

The music is really loud, so you time your farts with the beat. After
a couple of songs, you start to feel better as you approach your stop.

As you are leaving the bus, people are really staring you down, and
that's when you remember: you've been listening to your ipod.

Why were you off the bike?

For what it's worth, I'm back on the bike, too...did a couple of rides this weekend and felt...decent.

I also just got a trainer. Yay.

I fell off my mountain bike and landed on a rock with my knee 2.4 weeks ago. 7 stitches.

Does that come in Ti?

What can I say? I want to workout before work...don't want to get cut in half by a car during a commute, and I make a habit of wasteful spending. DON'T JUDGE ME!1

I just found some suspicious charges on my credit card. The NY Times started randomly showing up at my house, and apparently I'm part of some DVD club now. I never ordered these things.

Wasn't the NY Times just loaned like $250 million(14% interest) by some Mexican billionaire? Maybe this is how they plan to pay him back. Bogus suscriptions. Just what America needs -- The biggest POS newsrag in the country being influenced by Carlos Slim. Just imagine the forthcoming headlines.

Halp! While we need the rain, it's not doing any good for my riding needs. Actually, it couldn't have come at a better time for me because I'm just getting over a cold. Been raining like mad here in Topanga. 2 to 3 inches for the past 48 hours, with more on the way for Saturday. Sunday afternoon looks like there's a 5 hour break in the weather before more rain. Then calm and cool temps for a few days until more rain next weekend. Just in time for the ToC.

So what did I do on Friday instead of ride? Why I visited my LBS to buy a simple tube and ended up shopping for a new bike! Some good prices on '08 models. Looking at a Giant OCR C3, a Blue, a Roubaix and a Tarmac Elite, all with 105. What kicked off the impulse was seeing the charcoal gray with red trim CF Roubaix, with black 105 levers, black FSA crank, and gun metal gray derailers. That color combo is my weakness. Didn't help any that a salesperson was more than happy to take them down from the racks, weigh 'em and let me feel 'em up. Gonna test ride them early next week. Problem is I need a new bike like I need another hole in my head.

if it were me, and i wanted someone to talk me down, i would ask a forum of non-cyclists. so i can only assume you want a bit of encouragement. here you go:

buy it. buy them all. you. want. to.

I knew someone would understand. Here's a kink in the rosy scenario though - I was reading up on the FSA crank and BB (Gossamer/MegaExo) that's currently on the Roubaix (the one that started the whole impulse), and almost collectively those who've ridden them say it's junk. Sure it can be replaced, but that's one more thing to deal with. A simple kink that could nix the whole impulse. I might not even like the way any of them feel when test riding.

I may be changing my moderate upgrade plans to serious upgrade plans. DA instead of 105.

On a weather note: here on the west end of the SF valley, it looked like crap this morning. But now some sun is peeking through. Looks like the projected 5 hour window of opportunity to ride this afternoon was accurate. Yay!

That reminds me of this surfer dude I met when I was in college at UC Santa Cruz. When asked where he was from he said "inland malibu". We eventually found out that he grew up in Van Nuys.
