Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Something Differant.

I have seen no one on this forum, or any other forum with these shoes. Everyone always buys Sidi's. After trying on a pair of Sidi's a couple years ago at my LBS, I can see why. They are VERY nice shoes. Something I would be willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for. 55/Rad told me of the sale he got during Christmas. Now that was a deal.

However, I've been wanting a good high end black & white pair of carbon soled shoes for along time. I currently wear a set of DMT Ultimax RSX's, in blue. I love them quite bit, but not as comfy as I may like. I'm sure when I replace the insole someday, they will be ten-fold better, as that's my only beef with them.

Aside of this babbling, I have still not found the shoes I've been wanting to give a shot. My pre-req's were pretty specific.

1. Something with a more generous toe-box, for my fat toes.
2. A carbon sole. (definitely carbon ).
3. Top strap with a buckle.
4. Known for comfort, with better arch support.
5. Durable build, for many years of service.
6. And finally, black and white, with no other colors like red/blue, etc.

My initial intention was to pick up a set of the DMT Ultimax RSX's in black and pearl white. However, they are very hard to find now, since they all sold out a year ago.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, I found these....

I've read the only known review I've found on this shoe. It's pretty favorable. I also asked the guys at PBK what they thought, and they said, "They're really well made. A good cross between the comfort of Sidi, and the stiff performance of DMT, which is rare. Alot more shoe than expected."

Everywhere these are sold, they are $220-$250. PERIOD. No one has them any cheaper. At least not in the last year. They are also a rare brand in shoes. Spiuk helmets? Yes, lots of them out there. But shoes? Nope. A little less common.

Anyway, these babies are made in Spain? And, currently on sale for $162 with free shipping from PBK. I took the plunge and got the size 45's. That is the lowest price I could find anywhere. And there isn't too many places selling them to begin with.

https://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=F0002

And the only review I could find.

https://www.shecycles.com/news/article/mps/uan/1524

They look pretty sweet. A real review of how they feel will be added to this in a week or so.

Spiuk makes good helmets, so why not shoes?

Here is a link to the US Distributor web site. Looks like you can order directly although much cheaper on PBK. https://www.spiukusa.com/prod12-shoes/01-zs1rc.html

Please post how the fit is once you get some miles on the shoes.

I just bought a pair of Brand New in Box Spiuk ZS1 RC1 shoes off Ebay. They look really nice ,well made. Unfortunatly they are a little snug in the Toebox and I can't return them. As far as sizing and quality goes they run true to size and true to width(I need a little wider). I'd say for the width they are more roomy then a Sidi.About the same as higher end Peal Izumi's I've tried. Quality looks as good as other "higher end" shoes.

They look nice! Unfortunately, yet another shoe that doesn't fit my feet. I hope you find them very comfortable. Please post a review after you get some miles on 'em!

Spiuk's Arrived!!!

I got them in the mail, and I'm just waiting to take them out for a ride, so I can write a review on them. This took a while because the first set I recieved were small. Crazy Europeans, they run small. I normally take a 45 (11us), and my DMT's are 45's, and fit good, but the Spiuks run short, so I had to get the 46.

The initial fit is wonderful. The toe box is fantastic for anyone desiring some room up front. I have a slightly wide foot. About an E width, so if you have a normal to wide width, this is the shoe for you. However, keep in mind, they run a little short. The conversion of a sz46 is 11.5, but they are the perfect length for my 11 foot. The 45's (10.5-11) had my big toe rubbing the front of the shoe.

Anyway, I quickly installed the summer soles, and put the winter soles away. Another nice feature. They come with two sets of insoles. The comfort level is very high. the shoes are very lightweight. However, they are nowhere near as stiff in the upper as my DMT's. The soles are stiff, as they are carbon. but hte upper is nice and soft and pliable. Much more comfy to wear than DMT's.

The finish is super glossy white. Very Bold Euro styling, and the buckle operates very smoothly. The silver carbon sole is also pretty slick.

The cleat surface is also nice. It is very rough, to prevent the cleat from slipping. My DMT's do not have this, and youhave to really crank on the screws to keep the cleats in place.

All in all, my first impression is very good. They look great, feel wonderful, and have good quality construction.

the real test now, is take 'em for a spin.

I call it, when I see it.

Anyway, they seem like pretty good shoes. Heading out of town on Saturday, but I'll let you know how they perform, hopefully by the end of next week.
