Found at a "perpetual" garage sale yesterday for $20. 1995 Raleigh Canadian built Triumph Ravine.
Will it become a trailer towing utility bike?, a winter rider?, a place to put some of my better MTB parts?

I found a 83 Schwinn Voyageur in the trash last Friday. The paint isn't too bad not sure how well it will clean up once I go to work on it. Someone stripped off the original Deore derailleurs and put on crappy Tourney instead, but from what I can tell the rest is original. Grimey and filthy yet just don't have the time to clean it yet. It seems to have an oddish color of green for paint but according to the Schwinn Catalog they only came in Smokey Pearl and Champagne, maybe it's the Champagne? It looks identical to this but mine's a lot dirtier; Schwinn Voyageur Road Touring Bicycle 18 Speed Shimano 62 Cm | eBay All the decals are still on and in decent enough shape. Now I have to look for period correct Deore or I think I have a lead on a Suntour VxGT rear so may go that route instead since that Suntour unit had a far better reputation than the Deore. Needs new gear rings, cables, brake pads, brake lever hoods, new seat, and bars wrapped. The rear gears seemed fine not sure about the chain yet. Odd thing is it has the Schwinn Passage tires on it that look fairly fresh yet the gear rings are worn?

It's a just slightly a bit tall for me but I do, though barely, clear the top tube. Haven't decided if I'm going to sell or not, I have to see how well it cleans up before I decide.

Edit: Apparently it is completely stock, I read Tourney on the crank and couldn't find a model name or picture (in the case of Deore a deer head) on the rear derailleur. It appears that Tourney was an actual brand and the close up pics of the bike on E-bay shows the exact same rear derailleur and everything else is apparently correct.

After doing a basic cleaning job it's not in to bad of shape paint wise and very minimal rust, a hit with some Meguiars Ultimate Compound to see if some of the scratches can be dulled out, very few of the scratches go to the metal. It does need some things but it's completely workable for keeping the bike intact and doing some basic restoring, so I guess I got a keeper but still might sell it, I haven't decided.

Grabbed this 1981 Motobecane Jubile Sport from a yard sale about a mile from my house. Pretty much a time capsule in amazing condition. Original pleather wrap, Michelin Elan tires, Vitus 888 frame and fork and Suntour BL group. Sorry picture is a little fuzzy

Found a CL seller selling this frame for $15 a couple of weeks ago, and he also had a set of Araya wheels(the rear wheel came with a 7-speed freewheel). He gave me a small discount for buying both.

My hunt for a 531 Sport Touring bike is over: '84 Trek 610, full Shimano 600. A little rough (it's amazing how well the pics hide the rust/scratches), but everything (including the bar tape) is original. A hair bigger than I usually ride, but I think it'll work just fine. Dreaded Heliocomatic hub, but I have set of Suntour/Araya wheels waiting to go on. Just $60 on CL.

Almost was posting a pic of a Lemond Tourmalet pawn shop find this afternoon, but no deal. It's one of the three year Reynolds 853 framed ones, and it fits me. I later brought in a NICE bike to try and offset the price, which was somewhat reasonable I guess. The guy offered me 50 bucks for it. I was like ummmm, no... A $650-$700 5 year old bike is not leaving my hands for $50. I will find a way to go snag it. I just hope it stays there long enough. I know, not vintage enough. It is a nice steel frame though, and the Tiagra can go on a bike I am building for my boss at the auto parts store. He wants to to do the MS150 Next April.

This was the model and color of Lemond. Still had the red anodized wheels(laser straight) and had a set of skinwall Armadillos on it. I need a modern road bike in case I want to do an organized ride sometime.

Hated those hubs until I realized you can repack one without removing the freehub, or cassette, or whatever the heck Maillard called it. That is great. They are such a big part of vintage Trek too. Service em and use em up riding. Vintage wheels are so hard to get in good shape anyway.

Had this on CL for about a week....



Had an offer to trade it for this Team Fuji in my size and a fair chunk of cash........ I believe it's an '86.





Tires, chain, saddle and brake hoods are shot and right now the seat post is stuck but I'm pretty sure I can unstick it. (Already have it out, didn't put up much of a fight.) Needs lots of TLC but everything works and appears to be original to the bike.

When we got to his storage unit to pick up the Fuji he handed me this as well.....



It was free.... I have some ideas for it but nothing that belongs in C&V. As he was handing it to me he asked me if I had any use for an old Trek, I said sure expecting an old 800 Antelope MTB and he pulled this out........... Believe it or not everything moves freely, no dents, fork's straight and it doesn't appear to be pitted too badly, some filler primer and it would be smooth as silk under a new coat of paint. It had Campy Record pedals on it but he wanted to keep those.




All in all a great day and my birthday isn't even until tomorrow!

Thanks, things like this NEVER happen to me! I feel like a little kid at Christmas time. The Team Fuji is definitely a keeper, haven't decided what to do with the TREK, it's a bit small for me. I'm hoping the fluted seatpost from the Trek will fit my Fuji Espree or my Schwinn Tempo. The Schwinn Broadway frame I could care less about but I know somebody that might have a use for it, if he does I'll give it to him.

I picked up this 2000 Kona Nunu today. The guy I bought it from said "I need it out of my garage so I am selling it for $20". I gladly handed over a Jackson for it.

WOW indeed! I loved Kona back when they were styled that way. They didn't look like anything else, that's for sure. I've been dreaming of a steel Kona, but they don't seem to pop up on CL much.

Well, I did it... I put $30 down on the Lemond Tourmalet. I love the graphics, and the extras alone are worth the bike. Excellent condition skinwall armadillos, Speedplay pedals, Selle Italia Trans Am saddle, etc etc. Very hard to pass up, and now I will finally have a Reynolds 853 bike in the stable. It has the very aero steel forks as well, not CF. Still has the gorgeous red anodized rims that don't have a single wobble. It looks like someone spent a nice chunk of change buying and upgrading it, then it got beat up laying around the garage. If it rides anywhere NEAR as good as it looks, it should be a treat to own. I will use a traditional quill stem, and round bend bars.

It will get the 8 speed DA Group with brifters from my Team Miyata build. I really tried to like that bike, but I couldn't seem to get comfortable on it. Look for the frame in the Classifieds soon, priced to sell. I will have to keep the forks, as I have no spares for orphaned frames. The fork came off a GT Force, mid 90's, so not original.,,,,BD

Fantastic! I still have that exact same model I bought new. I'm in the process of replacing the worn parts but I prefer your technique of just getting a replacement for twenty bucks. They're popular bikes here on the west coast. Nice catch. I can't believe it's old enough to be in C&V.

Free, Campy record/Nervar Crank/Universal brakes and staying pretty close to what it has. Paint is in good condition.

I like the old Bottecchias in that paint scheme...70s professional? That's a worthy find and looks to be close to my size. It appears as though the important bits are in good shape. Hope the rust doesn't give you too much trouble in terms of stuck parts.
