I have a bike that was purchased in 1970 with the Dawes crest on it. I would like to sell it to a collector if possible, but have no idea what it might be worth. Thanks.

The company made a range of models.

The brand and date of the bicycle is a start.

Model and condition can greatly affect market value.

Not all of the company's models were offered in a women's edition so that limits the possibilities a bit.

You will need to find a way to post or link to images of the bike to get any meaningful responses.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the women's bikes from back then and most were three speed. This is a ten-speed but have not been able to find a picture of it on line yet.

My guess would be that it is a model called the Realmrider.

IIRC this model had a transfer on the top tube of the frame with the Realmrider name.

Transfers were not clear coated so it could have easily flaked or worn away...

Try looking at the Realmriders in the catalogues to see if you find anything similar to your example.

Could not find enough women's bike pictures for the Realm rider. It kind of looks like something called a Diana.

It was purchased new in 1970 and is a women's 10-speed bike. Found a serial number by the back wheel that says JR787 stamped in the metal. Think that is the serial number. Took pictures and just posted those on Cycling UK Forum to see if anyone recognizes it.

Hate to just junk it.

There is no reason to junk it. There were plenty of 10 speed mixtes sold back in the day and there is a market for them especially in larger cities where they make a real cool townie for the right person. If you can post some pics of the bike and give us an idea of your location, we can give you a value for the bike.

Where I live a bike like this would fetch less than $100 (I paid $60 for my Dawes). It does have charm and I expect someone would enjoy owning it. Best of luck!

If you use the term, "step-thru frame," instead of assigning a gender to the bike, you will likely widen your audience.

Sadly, serial # are useless for Dawes. A fire took all the records back in the day.
