Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The trick is to get a beater, paint it black, and tell your partner it is for emergencies.

The bit by bit replace everything.

Eventually you will need to get a frame ... but nowadays most frames are black anyway .... you can cover the decals with electrical tape.

The trick is to have an SO that also shares your love of cycling. Then it just costs twice as much to upgrade.

That repair looks really good. Do you feel like you can trust it indefinitely?

can you still get your S.O. to accept that you need a new bike?

After all this work to 'fix' the existing bike, I'm thinking he's actually HURT the chances of a new bike...

Put that old bike in storage and get one of these...

Kidding aside, the Tarmac is an incredible bike, I would love to own one

Does that mean I should not buy a very lightly used 2006 Tarmac I’ve got my eye on?

No, definitely buy it. High odds the current owner wants a new one.

The bike is still going strong.

Newer ones probably ride better, but have a stupid seat post clamp,

and I'm loath to break up the 10 speed stable, or to spend $$$.

@Kimmo, it's not a trick really, but it's great to date a woman that really appreciates riding top notch equipment. It can get expensive, but it's only money.

Money is worthless if you never spend it.

Allegedly** assaulted.

Looks like surface scratches to me. Don't think it has structural damages, but you never know. Did you have the frame inspected? I would have wrapped the whole thing instead. New color = new bike (well, sort of). lol

This is why I don't leave my bike out of my sight.
