SLX reinforcing? Billato built Lemond

Just been sent this photo but I don't know what SLX helical reinforcing looks like. Could it be?
Thanks chaps and chapettes...

The more I spoke to him (on messenger) the dodgier it sounded. PASS! Thanks for the replies anyway. For £70 posted it would have been a bargain if legit.

I think I had a real small frame like that slip through my hands, but I believe it was Oria tubing.

The SLX rifling is almost impossible to see from the top, especially of the BB is in the frame. The reinforcement is only 4-5" if that. Best way to check is through thenBB shell.

Dude, that's a great bike. Top end Excell GLx tubing, their best. Later called Podium. That's a 1994 Billato built, Team Gan, Lemond GLx. A very, very good bike.

One of the last Lemonds built by the Italians before Trek took over.

Here's a bunch of pix of mine.

https://pbase.com/jhuddle/glx_gan

I'm actually in the process right now of modifying a Veloce 9 speed cassette to be an 8 speed that will work on modern wheels because this bike deserves it.

To me it looks like a sawed off section of seatpost that got pounded down into the seat tube.

It is a large ledge worth of material, and without corrosion also. Especially given how much is up top.

If it's cheap and the right size snap it up.

I just finished swapping an old set of tubulars over to mine. Can't wait to try it tomorrow. As in the picture the bike just weighed 22 lbs 1 oz. That's with a heavier, old 8 speed Campagnolo Racing T setup. The tubular setup is old and not really that light either. 2296 grams with the tires, no QR or cassette. The cassette I put on this today was a Veloce 9 speed with the largest cog removed and a custom spacer kit to space it properly. I bet with modern components these frames would easily be under 20 lbs. I've got a Giordana made with the same tubing being built up and that one will be under 19 lbs using an old record 10 speed kit.

So you're passing on that because you expected it to be SLX and it's not?

I was passing on it because the chap selling it sounded very dodgy in the conversations I had with him.

Did I say 'was'? Oh. Another one on to the project list, just as well I probably won't get it until April...

Almost a zombie but just got this in my grubby paws. The news is not good. Where the heat marks are on the down tube, there is distortion from too much violence to take the seat post out and there is a crack across the chainstay despite me asking if there were any cracks and the seller saying no. £80 wall art.
Bigsadface.

Bollards.

Scrape the chain stay where you think the crack is. That may just be plating separating from the tube.

Seat post- man that is ugly! Remove *all* the paint in that region to see the real extent of the damage. Too soon to "throw in the towel" just yet.

The towel is still in place. The poor thing is in a terrible state. Got the rest of the seat post out chemically, and the headset and stem came off ok. BB was tough but a 4 foot bar on the spline extractor did the trick. I think I'm going to spend a few bucks on a paint match.
As for the top of the seat tube cluster, I've not tackled it yet. 58 stamps on BB and steerer, Italian thread. It may be in a state but it's the real deal which makes me happy.

Interesting headset, Tecorah

Looks like someone slipped with a grinder, and how the heck do you distort the cable guide hole??

shoot, that's a handful of disappointment, but still for the capital outlay of 80 euros, I'd try to make the thing ride-able (but I'm a sucker for hopeless cases!)
