Raleigh Criterium.... Worth $30 ??

My wife found this old Raleigh Criterium on the weekend. For $30 she could not resist.

It came with four wheels - Alloy ARAYA rims on Shimano hubs and Weinmann alloy wheels on Shimano hubs....

And Shimano 600 for all the rest.....

Even if the bike has some serious flaw , like a cracked frame........... remaining parts are worth well over $30. Great score. It's got a threaded eyelet for mounting a rear rack. I'd clean it up & ride it around town.

Noo...she did not do "all right"...she did GREAT!!! This could be a nice rider...or, if you part it out, you can probably get at least 4X your money...so...no lose!

My wife is trying...she has brought home a couple of duds...and one nice one...but...in all, she has not spent too much money...when they were "dud-ier"...we went through why...she is learning!

I would say around $250-300 with most of that value being in the complete 600 Arabesque groupo $150-200 to the right buyer.

I agree.... but they are not all winners.

A while ago she dragged home this rusty clunker with 650B wheels. 58cm frame and the lights work.
Its hard to believe that this was once the height of cycling technology.
But she also found a gorgeous tall Nakamura with complete Shimano 105 group that fits me, so I guess it evens out.

My wife scored for me big time once. She was at some friends house and looked across the street at a yard sale. She saw a bike with drop bars and gears, went over and the guy wanted $10. She said my husband will be over in 10 minutes to buy it. I went with low expectations but it was a mid level Japanese frame with good components. Nice guy too since he held it for me and didn't ask if he was charging too little. It was a $200 bike.

Nah - $30? - CDN? - for that? - Just send me the bike and I will refund your money. Include that rusty hulk Peugeot and I will dispose of it for you too.

I might even be able to pick them up ... I'm only 6 or 10 hours away ... eh?

PS. Hold onto that woman - she seems a keeper!

Yeah. The Raleigh is long gone but the old Peugeot is still hanging on a peg in the basement.
