Hey so how long a coat do you think you can get away with while riding a bike. I have had a coat get trapped in the wheel before which was full length. Do you think a knee length trenchcoat for example would still be long enough to mess things up while riding a bike?

I wouldn't wear anything longer than hip length. In fact, I have a cycling jacket that is slightly longer than hip length and it causes me problems by getting hooked on the back of my saddle.

You could put on your coat(s), get on your bike and find out. Wouldn't have to wait for someone on the internet to guess.

All depends, If you're a serious cycling enthusiast you'll almost certainly die.
Otherwise, millions of people all around the world wear trenchcoats, long skirts and traditional ethnic clothing while riding a bicycle.

FYI, many (most, all?) of the commercially available dress guards require a fender with perforations to accept the hooks.
But, if you don't have the right fenders, and can't find a dress guard that doesn't need holes, it's easy enough to sew one that wraps over a typical fender.

Here's a large selection of clip on guards and hardware.

And some more that show mounting options in the additional images.

I have ridden while wearing a trenchcoat. When I do, it is on an upright bike and I ride fairly slowly. Never had a problem with it getting caught in the wheel.

Hey would I be able to get away with riding this on a drop bar bike?
I miss being able to wear long coats since I started riding everywhere instead of paying for the tube. I ride an old racing bike if that matters and go fairly fast.
