Trek T2000 Rear Hub Failure - Replacement?

Trek T2000 Rear Hub Failure - Replacement?
Our Trek Tandem T2000 Rear Hub finally failed. It is a 24 spoke Bontrager Tandem wheel and the flange, where the spokes connect, cracked and then a chunk fell out. Two spokes now flap around. An email to Trek USA let me know there was only a 2 year warranty and that has long expired and also there are no OEM replacements. I also contacted DT Swiss, the manufacturer and they had no solution other than referring me to LBS. LBS could only suggest a whole new wheel. Does anyone know of a replacement hub or NOS, that can use the existing spokes and rim? Thanks.

I would really not plan on reusing the spokes. They would typically not hold up well, particularly with the stresses of a 24 hole tandem wheel.
Given the similar designs of the wheel, I'd think whatever rear hub Rolf uses on their tandem wheel would be the best bet, but I don't know if Rolf sells them individually.

I would not reuse the spokes when there are so few spokes. If there are more spokes, perhaps. 24 spokes are under a lot of tension.
Even the rim maybe suspect if it is a high mileage wheel. Best thing to do is to replace the whole wheel.

IIRC, this wheel has not been manufactured for a number of years(5+, 10+, ??).
Given that you have a non-functional hub, a rim with likely significant wear in the braking track as well as possible pre-crack fatigue damage at the spoke holes, and spokes which have also absorbed significant fatigue loads - I'd just bite the bullet and replace the wheel.

Had a similar experience with a front wheel on a T2000 a few years ago.
Then a cracked rim on a solo Trek.
New wheels in both cases. Not Trek!!

Those Bontrager wheels have a history of failing. Too few, too highly stressed spokes and lousy engineering. Our 2003 tandem has original Chris King hubs, which have worked perfectly for us. We have them serviced quite inexpensively once a year. Never a problem and we ride in the rain a lot.
We have been running CK hubs, 36H Kinlin XC279 rims (23mm X 28mm), and CX-Ray spokes for several years. Those spokes are just for fun, regular 1.8-2.0 round work just fine. The rims, spokes, and nipples can be ordered quite reasonably through bikehubstore.com with the hub and wheel build from your LBS. IMO a better tandem wheel than anything you could buy and for a reasonable price. We are a 285 lb. team.

I think between new hub, new spokes and built cost you'd be cheaper(and better off) replacing the wheel with a stronger one. I am in a similar boat - had a few spokes failed, the hub is still fine but shopping around for the wheel. This looks like a good option:

I have one of those wheels that only has a few hundred miles on it. It is in excellent shape and I have had it in storage since 2012. Make me an offer.

24 spokes? More spokes are the answer. Slice it (or distribute it as you wish ).
