Single Speed CX Out of Style Now?
With all of the new releases of 2011 bikes, I don't see Felt's Breed, Kona's Major One, or Specialized Tricross Singlecross!

When I was looking for a single speed cummuter I really wanted a sscx (that I could throw in a race if I wanted to) but I really thought they were just to high of a price point for what it was. My guess is that they didn't sell to well.

My guess is that people who like single speeds have been riding for quite awhile and either tend to convert an older bike to a SS or build up a new frame themselves.

That's what I was thinking when looking at the 2011 lineup, too.
Or why can't they make a more race biased cx frame with horizontal dropouts or sliding dropouts like the Presidio.
I'm thinking something like a light aluminum (or lighter steel) crosscheck with a shorter wheelbase and steeper angles. I'd be all over that.
<sarcasm>Also, I hate when I lose a race because of fender eyelets!</sarcasm>

and thats nothing compared to the leviathan added weight of TWO rear eyelets, one for a fender and one for a rack....these blow out your knees faster than you can say "guess I cant use this bike to commute with, its a racing bike....."

= Race oriented SS frame. This turns a BB30 BB into an eccentric. It was designed and made by a teammate of mine.

This is the second version. It has been tested for 2+ years now without issue. I don't have one yet but I don't have an extra BB30 frame yet. Next year I will.

Single Speed CX Out of Style Now?
I hate to see this.
2 hours ago, I had my lbs track down a Kona Major One for me. Last 54 in stock. Should be here next week.

I don't think that it's out of style. SSCX is a niche of a niche of a niche in the bike world. I just don't think there was a market for every manufacturer to have a race oriented SS frame.

But I find it quite a shame that there aren't nearly as many options for a new bike of this setup now

Super-limited market, would be my guess.
What's the market for dedicated cross race bikes?
What's the market for single-speed road bikes (of any style)?
What's the intersection of the two?
That said, I really like my San Jose. But, it's not race geometry, and when I bought it, it was relatively inexpensive - steel prices went up and now it's pricey for what it is, IMO. I don't get the fixie crowd's infatuation with track bikes - I think the San Jose makes a much better fun bike.
