I took the Shimano Deore hydraulic brakes from my 2004 Norco Torrent and put them on my Giant Roam along with the Shimano XTR rear derailleur.

Just got in from working on my Roam-2. I put on a pair of Shimano Saint pedals that I recently received from Chain Reaction. I also pumped up the tires so they're nice and hard. And I wiped down and lubed the chain with some generic dry lube.

Looking forward to a nice ride tomorrow. Hopefully, the weather will hold out. I probably just jinxed myself.

On my 700 M-T I adjusted the preload on the BB bearings and installed a chain. It a good thing that I checked the preload as I had not tightened up the pinch bolts on the crank arm ... and I don't know that I would have checked it had I not decided to recheck the preload. The chain is installed but I think I need to take out 1 linkset. It's well within the take-up capacity of the 105 deraileur but I think it's at the slack end of the range and would benefit from taking out the linkset.

I also tried to adjust the rear derailleur, that didn't go so well. The bike keeps skipping a cog at the top or bottom and I can't get it to work on all 10 cogs smoothly. I double-checked compatibility between the Tiagra 4600 shifters and the 5700 105 derailleur and from everything I have read they should work together. The other thing I read was that a misaligned derailleur hanger could cause this problem. So I took a critical look at the alignment of the derailleur and I believe that the hanger is out of alignment. So I ordered a Park Tool Derailleur Alignment tool. It'll be here in a week or so.

I'll use this time to recheck all the bolts and torque them to spec.

I got a new pair of Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 700x2.0 for my Giant Toughroad SLR 1 to replace the almost worn Maxxis Maxxlite tires. I really like the Maxxis tires that the bike was equipped with, good grip on gravel, dry and wet, not to noisy on the road... they are super light, XC race tires but they wore out pretty quick, after about 2000km there is less than 2mm of thread left. No puncters.

We went for a ride, my hybrid and I. 15.3 miles. I normally try to ride farther than that, but not with my wife. She was on her hybrid and 15 miles is far enough for her right now.

went over the bars going down a hill a couple weeks ago. broke a bone in my hand and had to have surgery on it. now its all wrapped up and all i do all day is sit around and look at the internet. tired of wiping my ass with my left hand. not to mention my wife is not pleased with this situation

i did get some replacement parts for the parts that were ruined in the wreck. new bars which i put on today and clamped on new shifters and brake lever, but thats about all i could do. gonna have to wait for my hand to get better to redo the cabling and recalibrate the derailleurs.

bummed. this sucks. i was getting into good shape too and now i can tell im ballooning out. gonna be a FAT TURD by the time i can ride again

I feel your pain. Crashed last year on a rode ride and broke my pelvis. I went from 169lbs to 198lbs. and it doesn't come off as easy as it goes on. Here's to a speedy recovery!

That sucks. I did the same thing 6 weeks ago. No surgery thankfully. I've been out of my cast almost 2 weeks and in a brace. I managed to lower my seat enough to take pressure off my hands and ride for the first time with week. Get well soon.

Took apart the VP-565 pedals, cleaned out old grease and loose ball bearings with solvent, reassembled with marine grease. Adjusted bearings, and they spin sooooo smooooooth!

recently removed the front fender as it would tend to grind against the wheel it actually made riding slower one day for few minutes; without it a nice smooth ride and can build cadence on a road at my usual speeds

WoooooHooooo!! The derailleur hanger alignment tool arrived today. I set straight off to see if I could make the 700 M-T shift more reliably. I found that the derailleur was misaligned such that there was a 1" (25.4mm) gap at the 12 o'clock position when indexed at the 6 o'clock position. It took me three or four tries to get the alignment almost perfect wherever I tested it on the wheel. I readjusted the derailleurs and the bike is shifting perfect!! Not one skipped cog through about a hundred or so shifts! Now to readjust the handlebars, throw on some handlebar tape and I'm done. I think I may hit the trails tomorrow before it gets too hot.

Today I put a new front tire and tube on my Roam-2 as it was flat when I went out to the garage to go for a ride. Fortunately, it went flat while sitting in the garage and not while I was out riding it.

Put on a new 700x32 Vittoria Zaffiro that cost all of $10 U.S. at Chain Reaction on closeout. Can't beat that with a stick. I also replaced the tube, but had to use one that was intended for a narrower 18-26mm tire as I didn't have any extra larger tubes lying around. Guess it's time to replenish my stock.

Anyway, I'm back in action.

I had some time over the weekend to work on the 700 M-T. I swapped out the 120mm stem for a 90mm one. I don't know if it will be short enough but I'll test it out soon. I installed a Quad Lock mount on the 90mm stem, this is the mount that holds my phone. I also installed a Garmin out front mount. I want to see how these looked before I wrapped the tape.

I wrapped my handlebars on the 700. It didn't turn out horrible but it certainly is an art. I doubt that I'll wrap enough bars to get any good at it but this should serve the purpose. I used SRAM tape and it has the sticky strip on the back. It seems comfortable enough. The length was a little short so next time I'm going to try something else.

bought a schwinn pump that had a shchrader valve and a presta valve, the presta valve ended up being defective, got another pum and returned that one, all good now

Installed Garmin Edge 20 on mine and my wife bike's.....later today will see how well they sync, have some speed sensors coming tomorrow. Curious to see how the Edge performs via GPS and with speed sensors. Been getting conflicting info if the sensors are compatible with the Edge 20, so just have to try and see.....
