So I'm not sure if this is the place for this, but I hope this is. I have a trek sawyer that I am setting up as sort of an adventure bike and I wanted to mount some salsa anything cages on the fork. Would it be a stupid idea to use some rivnuts to mount the cages? I know I can get a cheaper surly or salsa fork with the bosses but offset is a bit different so I wasn't sure if I wanted to go that route.

I'm sure you will get conflicting opinions, but drilling 6 holes in a fork isn't a good idea if they aren't going to be reinforced. If the offset is different by 5mm and the AC is off by 5mm, you aren't going to tell the difference between forks. I would go that way

I agree w/ Eric but I would hesitate to braze bottle bosses into a fork (and have done so before). If the bike were going off pavement by design I'd want a suitable fork, thicker and/or larger diametered blades and steerer with a robust crown.

I also agree that 5mm of trail and part of a degree of head angle won't be much different to most riders. Andy.

I would braze on reinforced water bottle bosses without too much concern, but the OP wants to use rivnuts. Most disc forks are really heavy because it's a conservative design due to braking forces.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll just order a fork from my lbs.
