On Wednesday I did 27 miles on the LA River and up Griffith Observatory again! I've been considering aero bars for my road bike, because it'd help on that long LA River stretch. Then I remember I also climb hills and that idea goes out the door due to the added weight!

Pico Rivera to East Fork 55.5 miles this morning. I'm dying but it was fun. First time going up to this point.

This Saturday I did about 23 miles on the gravel bike around the neighborhood. I'm beginning to really enjoy my carbon setup for gravel. It's still plenty fast on the road, with the ability to jump straight onto the trail. Anyways, I cut my ride short because there was a spot by my house offering free tacos, so I had to drop several roadies hauling ass to get home! Lol

Yep, all of the above. My kids were the ones telling to rush home so they could get their free tacos!

Saturday...Montrose Ride (8:00, short). Big group (100+, probably) with lots of horsepower, but relentless red lights heading east on Huntington and Arrow Hwy dampened the pace significantly. The few times the group was able to get into a bit of a sustained groove, things were fast, but my legs felt good, and I was comfortable. I got stretched a bit in the hills through Duarte and Bradbury, but held by spot and was never really in trouble of getting dropped. I was able to stay with the leaders about halfway up the final climb into Sierra Madre, and I pulled the plug before completely blowing up. Overall, I felt a little stronger than I did on this ride a couple of weeks ago.

Sunday...1:16 on Zwift in my garage, watching the rain fall on my driveway. Good steady tempo session.

I knocked out a chill 21 miles this morning on the gravel bike. I wanted to take the road bike, but there's still too much debris on the road especially since I felt like rolling in the city! It felt quite humid outside as well, but I prefer it over dry heat!

Santa Ana.

Took the Metrolink up to ride the Santa Ana River Trail with a friend. I usually get off at Anaheim Artic, which is adjacent to the trail. This time I got off in Santa Ana to meet up and rode about a mile on city streets to the river. Along the way I discovered that Santa Ana is building a light rail system. I googled it and found a link to the LA Metro West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor. I looked at the map and it ends in Cerritos, miles from Santa Ana. The OCTA Shows and entirely separate system that runs only about two miles. There is no mention on either site of any plans to connect the two.

I have long thought Public Transit can be very beneficial for us in the long run. Over the last twenty years and more I have witnessed much stupidity driven by politics in how it has been implemented. It would not surprise me to find they two systems used a different gage.

I knocked out 22 miles and 16 miles on Sunday and Monday during the heat. I'm just not a fan of long rides, mainly because I'm busy with work and kids. Most of my riding is done in zone 3-5 and I always try and tackle the hills to exert more effort. When I go on rides with my friends, I feel like a 1-2 hour ride becomes 3-4 hours! Lol

The key to riding safely in Los Angeles is knowing where and when to ride. I've had relatively car-free bike rides through the city based on timing. Plus if you stick to the hills, there's generally less cars. Only downside is that you have to climb!

Today I knocked out 28 miles and 2600 feet of climbing. I stayed local and just kept going up the Pasadena hills. I came home and devoured a burrito! My wife thinks all my cycling has made me into a pig when it comes to eating!

Still riding regularly in the Whittier Hills. Cool and cloudy morning gave me the motivation to climb the three sisters roads to the top of Turnbull/Skyline.
Admittedly, I struggled going up the last two switchbacks on Descending. Several groups out today and vehicle traffic was less than usual so great morning in the Whittier Hills.

The best 7.5 miles in a long time. A couple of years ago my wife was hit by a car (very slow moving accident / she's fine) and it really put the fear of God in her. This is only the 2nd time in about 3 years that she got up the courage to ride with me. Due to not being on a bike for so long she was only able to make it about half way down to Seal Beach before turning back. I'm taking it slowly and trying to keep her 100% on a bike path to avoid any cars.

Happy to check back into SC and ride in some wonderful weather compared to DFW.
45 miles all around Temecula valley including some of the busy wine country and old town areas.

Anyone ride around Bonelli Park in San Dimas? I went to Raging Waters with my family on Sunday. My wife commented I was more memorized by the hills in the area while watching the cyclists in the park! It looks like a perfect area for a gravel bike as well, since there are surround road and off-road trails.

Another ride today before my 2 week vacation in Mexico and adding to the Great Cycle Challenge mileage. Funny weather today, cold morning at 8am, muggy heat 9am, somewhat sunny 10am and getting home it got cold again. Felt good throughout the ride and found a rhythm midway.

This little guy hitched a ride for 3 miles or so before flying off.

Snuck out for a quick La Habra Hgts - Murphy Ranch - Turnbull Loop.
Mid 70's, partly cloudy and East-West Rds are Type I fun!

First hairpin turn descending Turnbull Cyn Rd down into Hacienda Hgts.
