Pretty cool stuff. You really get an idea of how huge the gearing is watching that guy try to pedal it from a stand still:

Yeah, very recognizable with that darker surface it has. Is it asphalt?

Yeah. It was re-done last year and supposed to be concrete but they went with the cheapest construction bid and it ended up being bumpy and unrideable... The asphalt works for now but has some liquid-like character and will need to get rebuilt much sooner than a concrete track.

The bicycle tech looks interesting (the double chainring set-up, wheels, and xtra-long frame), but as for the human factor I'm not impressed. Vehicles going for the land speed records are allowed to get an 'assist' start up to about 30mph, which would be 5% of a 600mph speed. She got a tow up to 100 mph, or over 50% of the 180 mph speed. I'd rather see someone do it like the vehicles - 5% assist (about 10mph), then use multiple gears to get up to the target speed. And drop the pace car, too, so she'd have to adjust to the wind forces as she accelerates.
As other said, get a pro sprinter, maybe even a top TT guy and see what they could do. I might even drive out there to Bonneville to see that! (I've been there twice for the fall 'speed week' runs).
