3/32 cog & 3/32 chain with 1/8 crankset

gotta EAI 3/32 cog . wanna buy sugino messengers from my LBS but they only got the crankset in 1/8. i told the guy i had a 3/32 cog and 3/32 chain and he said the 1/8 cranks would still fit nicee. is he right? or is that bs.

Is the LBS ran by monkeys...or did you misinterpreted what he said.
1/8" crank + 1/8" chain + 3/32" cog is fine, but 3/32" chain will not fit because it will be too narrow to fit onto the crankset.
1/8" and 3/32" both indicates how wide the chain is.

That is wrong. You will need an 1/8" chain to run those cranks.

If either of the components (Chanring/Cog) are 1/8" then you will need a 1/8" chain.

3/32" chain will not fit the Sugino 1/8" chainring on my SS frame. I have tried it. A 1/8" chain is cheap and will work fine with the 3/32" rear cog.

Have the LBS monkey pull out the crankset and a 8 speed 3/32" chain and try to match them up.

You should've called him on his bluff when he told you. Think about it. 3/32 is less than 1/8, which would be 4/32. Obviously something too thin can't fit onto something that's too wide.
