22mm seat post?
So I have this old Peugeot Mixte, like a UO-18 or something, and I don't have a seat post for it. It uses the narrow 22mm seat post. I was reading that some Peugeots actually have a shim that fits down the seat collar and you can use a larger sized seat post in it.
Not so in this case. There is no shim. Any idea where I can source a 22mm seat post for this Peugeot?

Yes, every Peugeot UO8 and similar models have the slim post and shim. I have tucked a few away, over the years, and will probably never be able to find them...

If you are sure you really need a 22.0 I think there may be a few at the local coop. I'll take a look next time I'm in there. You'll need a top as well since these are just straight posts without any saddle attachment mechanism.

Is it really 22.0?? Years ago I replaced mine with a real Simplex post. I can measure it when I get home.
Edit: It measures 26.0. Certainly not 22.

Definitely 22mm. I verified with a 22mm quill stem. Clamps and slides just fine. The 22.2mm quill is way tight. I still haven't given up that the co-op near me has one. I need to dig deep through all the boxes.

Mikeybikes, you are correct. I'm building up the same model mixte for my mother. You need a 22.0 seat post and there is no shim in that tube. A BMX seat post will not work. I know; I bought one to try. A forum member sent me the proper post. I'd contact Bigbossman and take him up on that post.

Ummm, it's possible. When I put it in it was somewhat tight but then, the inside of the ST wasn't very clean either. So I did some cleaning up of the bottom of the post and the inside of the ST. Hard to image that I took off 0.6mm total all done by hand though. Nothing would surprise me. I don't know the history of the seatpost I used so it might not have been uniform top to bottom. That was long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Sheldon Brown's database says 25.5 for a 70's UO8 without the shim, 22 with the shim.

Well, now..... this is curious. I have the post in my hand and just measured it at 24mm at the bottom, and 22mm at the top clamp area. This post came out of a Peugeot mixte - I pulled it out myself.
What do you guys make of that?
I also have a few other steel posts - all 25.4, except one that is a straight pipe that is marked 22.2mm. I have no idea where these came from, but I'm guessing the 22.2mm might have been from a Varsity.

I'll measure my 22.0 seatpost and the clamp portion this evening and post a pic for posterity.

The average diameter of the seat post below the minimum insertion line is ~21.75mm. The clamp area measures 22.2mm (7/8")
