Struggling to fit myself for a frame - help requested
Hi
I am looking at a new frame, I am primarily a fitness rider who would like to enjoy my cycling a bit more comfortably. I ride in Hong Kong, and therefore I am basically either climbing or descending some fairly steep hills for most of my ride. Hopefully someone in this forum will be able to give me some fitting advice.
I am currently on a Storck Scenero XL frame which is stated at 63cm. I struggle with low back pain, which I am sure is likely due to not being strong enough yet in the legs/glutes. I am also wondering if the frame geometry is too aggressive for the sort of riding I want to do.
I am not looking to compete, just get places in an enjoyable manner. I did the measurements on competitive cyclist for the Eddie Fit which are below:
Height - 193cm
Arm Span finger to finger - 193cm
Actual inseam - 90cm
Trunk - 69cm
forearm - 38cm
Arm length - 68cm
Thigh - 65cm
Lower leg - 59cm
sternal notch - 162cm
They suggest bike dims of:
Top Tube Length 57.2 - 57.6 Cm
Seat Tube Range CC 59.5 - 60 Cm
Seat Tube Range CT 61.3 - 61.8 Cm
Stem Length ` 11.1 - 11.7 Cm
BB Saddle Position 79.2 - 81.2 Cm
Saddle Handlebar 58.4 - 59 Cm
Saddle Setback 8.3 - 8.7 Cm
Seatpost Type Setback
I am looking at a Lynskey Sportive. The specs are all listed here
If someone has the time or inclination, please could you have a look at this. I must be either a L or XL, but I'm not sure which. Sorry for the overload of info. Obviously if I could go and test ride the bikes, I would. Unfortunately, there are very few frames that are my size in HK.
Many thanks in advance

The geo for that XL Storck did not look too agressive, looking at its headtube height.
I'd rather say that it's reach is too long for your dimensions (look at its ETT length, compared to your Eddie Fit suggestion).
The ETT and reach of the Lynskey frame matches your top tube range much better, IMO.
Someone else may be able to chime in.

Personally I think the fit measurements are far too specific.
One can do a lot of adjustments by moving the seat around, taller seat post, shorter seat post, long stem, short stem, stem up, stem down, etc.
However, it does give you a ballpark of where to start at.
As far as the seat tube length in your "fit", is that for a level top tube? So, with a sloping top tube, the seat tube length would be thrown out of whack. Since there is not an effective seat tube length, the better measurement to go by should be the top tube length.
I would think the taller frame would be more comfortable than the shorter frame as long as it is not too long.

Geo for the Storck Scenero is below. Thanks for the replies so far. If I go off ETT then the Storck looks way to big and the Lynskey L is the fit. I get cramp in the muscles in my lower back, despite having put on a shorter stem and flipped it for some more height. I know that there are other factors, primarily bike fitness, but I feel the reach on the Stork is possibly a big factor in causing me pain...
Thanks for any help, I would like to get this right.

Yeah, I was thinking the stretched out reach might be causing the back pain, but didn't want to state that as much
(Think the 59 size Scenero, would have been better for your fit).
Sucks you can't find any larger frames in HK.
(A complete bike to ride around for fit would be best).

Thanks. Even the XL Sportive doesn't look as long a cockpit as the Storck. I guess I need to try to find some bikes to ride. The thing I am struggling with is that even at 6'4", my measurements according to most fit calculators don't seem to match up to an XL frame. The size L seems a better general fit and then I can improve the fit with different post/stem etc.
My old bike was a Harry Hall Reynolds 531 frame from the 1990's which was a 22" (ie Large) frame with similarish geometry to the Sportive. Never had the problems with that bike that I do on the Storck. But that could just be a factor of age ;-(
Sportive L or Sportive XL - what is the most significant measurement? ETT or seat tube?

I'd place the ETT as a higher priority than the seat tube (angle), as long as the seat tube angle is between 73 and 74 degrees.
Even higher priority would be the stack and reach of the bike (if listed), but I suppose you'd have to have quite a history of riding bikes, and have those figures down pat.
One degree diff in the seat tube angle should still allow you to place the saddle fore or aft to get the right fit.
Only thing is, if the saddle rails end up being forward in your fit, then you won't have room to connect one of those small bags at the back of the seat rails.
I don't suppose you could try tacking down a geo chart of that old Harry Hall frame? (and compare it to the frame/s you're looking at)
