If you go the Delta Gruppo (a Master Piu is a bit new for that I believe) I would advise against 7/8. A pro bike mechanic friend of mine had a nightmare with the original Delta flared rear mech trying to change 7/8. The same with brifters. Delta brakes aren't very good and the clearances/reach are extremely tight and I think it is tubular wheels only. The Shimano equivalent is the AX group-set that is probably the only time the Japanese out-blinged the Italians - some cool innovation in there for sure. Both group-sets nearly sent their respective companies broke with all that exotic trim. Neither are very good technically but I think the motive for all that jazz was form rather than substance. Spare parts? - forget it.

I went through my my friends parts bin and pulled up Record calipers, a titanium Record 9 speed r/d, Record f/d, Record 10 speed cranks and Veloce silver 9 speed shifters. FIR rims with Record hubs and Veloce 9 speed cassette.

I myself like brifters, I actually like Shimano because they seem to have a larger area to hold on to. The only thing I wouldn't do is spread the rear triangle on a frame as nice as that.
I would also stay with same group set if you could. .

I would do a neo-retro build for sure. I did just that with Record 11 and carbon wheels on my Master.
