No cars allowed on trails. Don't have to worry about getting killed by someone who's looking at their phone.

Don't have to worry about the steel bulls , just deer, skunks, foxes, moose, bears, and other fun little critters.

Because I can do it on my road bike (with fat tires), while my full suspension bike sits in the garage.

Getting out on any of my bikes is a getaway from daily stress. My MTBs are a great alternative to the road miles I put on most of the year, and they get me out on paths and into locations my road bike simply isn't built for.

Freedom

Because you can go almost anywhere, today's MTB's are some mean go anywhere machines. The feeling of reaching a summit on a bike its greater than the same summit hiking for me. I do it as stress relief as well, cheaper than a shrink...

There are no mountains where I live, so I often jokingly refer to what I do as "dirt-pathing". I like it for the repetition (pedaling) and the changing challenges presented by the trail. Dirt-pathing is good exercise, gets me outdoors, distracts my conscious mind so that my subconsious mind can generate ideas and solve problems, and new routes and trail systems provide a sense of exploring the unknown.

It's a lot more exciting than cycling on a plain ol' road

I like getting out into the woods, getting some exercise, enjoying the scenery, seeing wild life, and riding over a bit of challenging terrain. It combines a lot of what I like about bicycling and hiking with some added challenges and excitement.

I like mountain biking because on tight trails 15mph seems fast again

I have a buddy who renamed Mountain Biking (MTB) to All Terrain Biking (ATB). Sort of makes sense considering where I live. I have to drive hours north to get some "real" elevation.

Oh! As far as cycling is considered, nothing puts a smile on my face more than mountain biking
