Pictures of my old 1988 Raleigh 531c. I bought this frame new in Glasgow with my first month's wages. I built it up with Campagnolo Athena and then upgraded he running gear to Chorus in 1992. Levers are record, brake calipers, seat post and headset are still Athena though. I rode it at the weekend. Still smooth although it is now promised to a local bike shop to go on display as a bit of retro memorabilia.

Bummer I visited NZ last year, but never made it anywhere close to Invercargill. What does a person do way down there anyway?

A person raises a family and rides Italian bicycles down here of course! We have an indoor velodrome in a city of 50,000 people (yeah, I know, it's a only town really) there's a huge local interest in cycle racing and there are hardly any people. I have some of the most spectacular scenery in the world on my doorstep and get to race in the Milford Mountain Classic https://www.milfordclassic.co.nz/ every year. Industry is mainly agriculture, primarily dairy.

Schwinn Circuit 1987
The bike and I were damaged in a collision last year. The down tube was replaced and updates made for 10 speed (no turning back).

I'm no pureist, but in this case I would go alloy. I think it will work better with the chrome and leather. It helps that you already have the group. Killer crankset btw. I wish I went with the carbon square taper over UT.

Jack of all trades
+1 on alloy, it will complement the stem, bars, lugs and seatpost...

Haha, that's what I did. I had an alloy group and then aquiered a tommasini with carbon record. The alloy group went on the tommasini and I ended up with a chromeless colnago for the carbon group.

Thanks for the opinions all. I was leaning towards alloy as I was building it up but I wanted to see what it looked like. I'll probably do the teardown next weekend. I'll repost it when finished.
Definitely outside of the food, clothing and shelter triangle. No more bikes for a year, just going to finish the ones I have.
Those cranks are the first generation Record carbon cranks with the weave instead of the random mat. They are my favorite carbon bit, one of the reasons I wanted to try that group on this bike.

Oh I'm familiar with the crankset. My dad sold a set without letting me know. I would have bought it. The record quake taper ones are pretty hard to find. I like the finish on my ultra torque record cranks but there is just something about the carbon fiber square taper cranks that I love. The bottom brackets also last longer.

Here are a couple bikes I recently restored. Loved the Vitus, was one of the smoothest rides ever. However, I was a bit to large for it and sold it before I broke it.
