I'm thinking the distance to the ground from your saddle would depend on your bottom bracket height, not the size of your wheels. That is, compared to a road bike and using the same length cranks and similar leg extension. There were 2 people who joined our road bike club for a while and they set their folders up to duplicate the positions of their road bikes. They used drop bars on the folders.

Riding with them in group rides it didn't seem to make any difference that they were on folders. They weren't super fast but they weren't slow either. Even on climbing rides they did fine.

Remind me of a bicycle one of our neighbors had in the 60s. It was green and his chain cover was bigger, it covered both the top and bottom sides; he brought it back with him from London. The same seat and bag but he also had a light with a friction generator on the rear wheel. There was a built-in lock on the seat-stays under over the fender. I recall it being quite heavy.

I am impressed that you still have it in running condition.

what don’t you like about the disc brakes ? disc brake systems work equally well on flat as well as hilly terrain … (just as many rim brake systems)

if you prefer more upright position - could try a different stem - including a stem with a rise and / or a shorter stem

many hydraulic disc brake hoods are positioned a greater distance from the handlebar compared to rim brake brake hoods - so keep this in mind when evaluating your position on the bike

I know the video you're talking about. That's Mitch Boyer. He got the 42mm set and I got the 50mm. That video is the one that got me thinking about the Scribes in the first place. So far, I really like them. They are my first carbon wheels. They have been over some very rough, backroad surfaces here and have held up just fine. The fact that they are wide rims allows me to lower the pressure in my tires. Between that and the carbon, it does smooth out the ride more. They do seem to be a bit faster, as well.

The Raleigh 'Sports' model was a veery popular bike when I was a schoolboy in the late 50's early 60's — for those who could afford one. Nice bike!

Looks just like the '72 Raleigh Sports I bought new for $82 in Philadelphia and commuted there with it every day for years. Mine had the the 3speed coaster hub which I preferred for its reliable all weather braking capability.
This picture was taken in 1983 near the Delaware Water Gap when the twins were about 9 months old.


The last known location for it was in Freiburg, Germany in 2001, where my daughter used it for daily commuting and left it at the Hauptbahnhof after finishing a years study at the University and took the train to the Frankfurt airport to head back to the U.S.

The one I used today is about a decade old Cervello, fairly light road bike with all DurAce (except the crank that was changed to a compact Ultegra). It still rides well. I was thinking to throw it in the trunk of a car and go in the area with rolling hills where it’s much more picturesque.




But days are short here so decided against it and went directly from home onto a bike path.






All the wild flowers have gone to seeds and in some areas our city crew mows the edges to keep it clear.
Usually there is a sandhill crane nest in the pond in summer. These days, my rides are least interesting but once the snow comes down, that will change.

Mainly a Surly Cross Check. Recently added a Specialized Enduro for trails the CC isn't up to. And, a Lemond Tourmalet for road days. {which seem tobe fewer. Moved to the Sierra Nevadas, and liking the trails up here!}

A lovely photo of a true 'classic' in bicycle culture. These were supreme machines during my schoolboys days — although I thought my Lenton Sports in Reynolds 531 was a cut better. But the "Sports" like yours had an 'AW' hub — I think — even though yours had a brake incorporated. My bike came with the dangerous, awful, appalling 'SW'. (It hurt me bad!)
