Don't worry, before long you'll find another job, even farther from your home, that has a cager-free path leading to its front door.

Yes, don't worry, you will have a little more time to
do some fun rides. They sold the car line of the
auto dealership, I was working at, to another dealer.
I have been, out of work since, last Oct. 27. Picked
up a part time job during, Christmas. But that was over
Jan 5,2007.So I'm back to looking. Have a few leads, two
are working in LBS, which could, save me a lot on bike
parts. Keep riding, and enjoy, the time off.

Don't want to go into any details for yourself or me.

I'm sure we've all been there before. Try to take advantage of some time off if you can. In hind sight I wish I would have.

I like Bikeheads response, working at an LBS. I've thought about that myself.

Look up and smile, it'll all work out.

Hey bikebudda,
I'm unemployed, too. Was working 2nd shift a/t Saturn Plant and got laid-off 3mos. early. You'll find another job! Working at an lbs sounds like a good suggestion. I'm going to give that one a shot myself. Meanwhile, increase your mileage and clean/lube all those little nooks and crannies on your bike(s) that've been bugging you. When the couch starts calling tell it to "SHUT UP!" and go for a ride.

Definitely take advantage of the time. Get things done you haven't had time to do. Start things you've ben interested in. Take some bike rides. The time that your jobless can end be being one of the most productive periods of your life.

If you don't have any dependents or anything, you can live on the streets and eat out of dumpsters. Perks include riding your bike all day long, never actually working or paying for ANYTHING, and many rewards in the afterlife. Just a suggestion!

Sorry to hear that. While you are looking, get into some volunteer work with churches, community groups etc. IT will help you maintian your feeling that you are useful, will help at interviews when you are asked "what have you been doing?", maybe you can meet people who can point to opportunities. What were you doing? Good luck.

I lost my job around February last year. I did some contract work so i had a nice little nest egg so i spent march - October mountain biking/hiking around BC. It was the best spring/summer of my life. I know it probably sounds weird but having that time off changed my whole life. I found God, found myself, and became a completely different person. Now i am so much more focused, i work for 2 companies (which i enjoy), have a purpose for life, and enjoy everyday. This all started out with being layed off. You never know what could happen if you take the time to enjoy yourself.

I start my new job wednesday but here's the problem. It's way too close home, just 1 mile from door to door, I guess I take the long way round.

Congrats, on the new, job. Hope you have some time to
take some long rides. I see that Performance is opening
a new store, here in Dayton, Ohio, they had a ad on Yahoo
for a store manger. I will probley, apply there, when it opens.
I'm going to be 62 this June, so I just need a little extra
coming in (money) to go with my GM pension. Again congrats
on the new job, a being a mile, if you need to you can walk/
ride the bus.

Hey, now you can join the Very Short Commuter Club! (Check out post #28 on the linked thread - that's you now! )

Seriously, congrats on the new job! Maybe you can negotiate an earlier start time so you can get out earlier and put in the extra miles afterwards. That way you just pedal the mile to work without sweating, and then do whatever you want after you get off.
