New craigslist scam????

I got this text....

"if you're interested in trade, please check my ad: craigslist: account log in plus cash ?"

It never occurred to me that it was fishy. I clicked the link and it took me to a Craigslist sign on screen. Hackles went up and radar went off. Needless to say I did not sign on.

Seen this before??

it happens. However Craigs list is a wonderful service. It's a society as well. It can never be taken over by ebay and the other bully internet companies. it certainly ranks high up the list as one of the best and most useful services the public has for buying and selling personal items like bikes.

It didn't occur to you that this was fishy? Really?

This is just one more reason not to put your phone number in a craigslist ad. The other one is you're giving out your number to potential crazies. If some random person walked up to you on the street and said, "What's your phone number?" would you give it to them?

I have yet to get anything but texts about bikes when I list them for sale. And I have texted people who have bikes for sale and they have only ever then discussed the bike transaction.

We aren't even a generation removed from everyone using the white pages in their daily life where (most)everyone had their ph# listed and most of those also had their address listed. The amount of crank and solicitation calls is 15x less now on a cell phone than it was with a landline back 10-25 years ago.

Sounds like they want you to put in your login info so that they can use your CL account to post scam ads or something like that.

Crooks. As much as I am involved with convicted criminals I still get ticked off at scammers.

Maybe it's different in Des Moines, but we have a lot of crazies in NYC. I have had email exchanges with nutjobs when buying or selling on Craigslist where I was extremely glad they didn't have my phone number.

You're right about the phone book of course, but now with cell phones they can text or call you wherever you are, all day. It's just so easy to use CL's masked emails--which I can get on my phone anyway--that I don't see why I would give out my phone number.

Well I'm not too paranoid about my phone number....yet. The vast majority of my Craigslist calls and texts are legit. I just had never seen the "trade me" angle used before.I learn something every day.

That's a really interesting point, and I'd like to talk to you about it further. Would you post your phone number, and I'll give you a call?

I have a $16 a month cell phone I use for Craigslist and other activity. Never the family phone.

True, I am sure location plays a big part in how each of us perceive CL.
