Di2 Triple Road at Interbike

The unlikeliest news of the show was that Santana was showing off a Di2-equipped tandem that they’d coaxed into shifting a triple. It’s something Shimano swears won’t work. Except it does.

He expresses skepticism but it reads like he has never ridden it therefore I take his opinion as conjecture.

Absolutely, it's clear he's just going from the picture (well, that and previous experience with Di2, but not this particular setup).

Some tech whiz has refigured the innards a couple years ago. Pricey but do-able.
However we'll stick with bar end shifters . . . they work great.
Had one of the early electronic Shim-shifters years ago . . . great when it worked but crap when it failed in the middle of a tough hill climb without any warning. After 1,800 miles of test riding it, went back to barcons.

What version of the Shimano Di2 did you try? The Ultegra 6770 (10sp) and 6870 (11sp) Di2 series have been very reliable. The 6870 is lighter with even longer battery life than the previous generation. The internal seatpost location protects the battery from salt and moisture, and allows the use of a lighter battery. We think that the 6870 has fantastic shifting and have not heard of any reliability problems.

His issue predates the dinosaurs (not E-tube), plus it was a alien battery genetic mutation experiment that went bad. The tabloids have run this story numerous times.
