Last Week for the Electric Shoes...
Daylight Savings takes effect in most areas of the US next Sunday, March 8th. And that means many of us will no longer be riding home in the dark until next fall. Two winters ago I bought these cheap LED-soled shoes from Amazon. ($30). I use toe clips, and as you can see the toes are a little worn. However, an intermittent short in the right shoe began a month ago, so I ordered a new pair. And a couple of days before they arrived the right shoe quit completely. The new shoes are so much cleaner and brighter, it's amazing what a couple of winters of commuting can do to a pair of shoes...electric or "analog".
In the photo you can also see my helmet with my helmet light. It's just an LED flashlight with a bottomless plastic prescription bottle attached to provide better visibility from the side. The flashlight will go in the backpack, along with the rear helmet flasher (not visible in the photo), and the LED shoes will go in the closet.
This is also the last winter for the Contour Roam action cam, seen charging here. The battery is wearing out and does poorly in the cold weather. It is not designed to be replaceable, although I think I could do it. This is my second Contour Roam, and I'd get another if the price was right, but the company is not as healthy as it was, and there are newer better cameras that fit the bill.
Some time before next winter I will probably buy the Drift Ghost X which is the same 1920x1080 resolution, and almost as wide as the Contour's 170-degree field of vision. But the Drift Ghost X is smaller and lighter, with bluetooth preview, settings that can be adjusted without a phone (if necessary) and a removable battery, with a larger battery available.
My last few commutes have begun with the sun just dipping below the mountains to the west of Colorado Springs, and complete darkness just as I arrive home ~50 minutes later.
We just had 4 inches of snow last night, and Daylight Savings Time is a reminder that spring is almost here!

For the next few weeks, I just trade darkness on the way home for darkness on the way in, so too soon to give up on my lights and reflectors. By April, I'll have daylight on both ends.

He sings well!
I wore a light-up ankle band, but it's not elastic, so it's uncomfortable. I'm back to elastic reflective ankle bands. But light-up stuff is good. It never hurts.
