I was missing the same one from my Superbe brakes. I found one at a local hardware store with a good screw stock department. It was a plain stainless acorn nut, not the same as the original but it's doing the job. Since I am not bothered about that nut on that particular bike, I'm happy.

Ouch....that's a SR nut which is different than the similar looking Chorus/Athena/Croce nut

Yes. in the 70's sold one by one, later in a service pack (small bag of 5 or 10 units) I forget which.

I had this problem once, I ended up buying two chromed metric acorn nuts, that way both looked the same. The leftover went onto another bike that arrived w/o that fastener.

Those parts do show up on ebay from time to time. but finding an auction for a single caliper w/o brake block holders may be cheaper.

Ill be watching this thread since I'm in need of one for my Pogliaghi. The rear nut was missing from my C-Record gruppo when I acquired it.

Callig. Just a thought but, if you can't find one, I could try to replicate one on my metal lathe. But, since I don't have any stainless bar stock large enough, I would need to start with a metric acorn nut and shape it down to a cone. May work, may not.

You could always make your own like rootboy says. The brakes on my daughter's bike has Swarovski crystals on them.

Nuthin'. But you'd probably have to supply the metric acorn nut as I can't think of a place around here that might have one. Maybe West Marine, but it's doubtful.
I'll take a look at my local ACE. They have a fairly good selection of metric stuff, but not sure I've ever seen metric acorn nuts there.

I may also need to take a close look at your remaining nut. Would be great to have it in hand so I could match the profile but that may be more than you're willing to do. My only reservation is how deep the threaded bore is cut in a standard acorn nut. They're generally cut nearly full depth and so, if I cut that taper to match the original, I'm sort of concerned about running into the bore.

Yes. Please shoot close up pics of what you have, next to the original so I can see scale, etc. Please send them in a PM.

I got one from our local Ace Hardware (in SS no less), but they seem to vary in what they carry from store to store. Surprisingly, Home Depot also has them, but their stock was a mess (drawers) and they did not have the right size in stock.
