Trek 420 56cm 1984

Trek 420 (1984) $300 (plus shipping, but I’m always open to offers)
I know what you’re thinking: “500 Three Hundred American dollars. Are you insane?” My reply, “how would I know?”
The What: Trek 420 Mangalloy 2001 Double Butted Tange steel frame set.
Size: 56cm ST (ctc); 56cm TT (ctc); 43cm chainstay; 103cm wheelbase
Rear hub spacing is 126mm
Seat: TBD
Seatpost: TBD
Bars: V-O Postino (wavy) bars
Stem: NITTO Technomic
Components: Shimano Arabesque (except the 600 Tri Color hubs, FSA headset, Sakae crankset)
Single pivot side pull brakes; downtube friction only shifters
Crankset: Sakae SA 170mm double (I have a Dura Ace 175mm available)
Wheelset: 7 speed freewheel; Shimano 600 TriColor hubs; Mavic Open rims (note one is Open Pro, one is Open Elite)
Tires: 700c X 28 Conti GatorSkin Hardshell

The bell and the pump: those aren’t included. I’m keeping those. Unless you offer more. I guess.
I don’t really want to sell the bike. It’s a smidge small, hence so much stem and seatpost. It’s ready to ride. I ride it from the ‘burbs into Detroit one or two times a month, about ~65 miles round trip. I’ve not had it out on dirt roads since I built it into this configuration. So it’s pretty clean.
If you want just the frameset (frame + fork + bottom bracket + new FSA headset): about $150 (I spent $60 on the FSA headset a month ago…). If you’re going to single speed it, I can pull the bottom bracket and $10 or so. Make an offer.

Thanks for reading all the way to the bottom.

oops - crank's upside down

hollar if you want more pics.

Pretty bike, I have those tires on my Trek 613 and they're amazing. Love the rack mount.

Next time you're in Detroit, drop me a line, we can go for a ride and/or drink.

Will do! - will see if this snow sticks around, but if things clear up in the next Saturday or two, we'll plan a coffee-meeting of all B.F. Members who Cycle Detroit in the nearly Winter Times (BFMwCDnWT) >> i can see the vintage style wool jersey's now!

Also - time for a bump.
And - a reminder if you're interested in only the frameset, that is on offer. If you have a headset, I'll keep the brand new FSA I installed not long ago, and knock of $40~50 bucks.

OK -- that's it. Next I need to get my Miyata OneThousand Super Bodge up for sale.

cheers

A meet up sounds great! Keep me posted on the details. I have a few coffee shops I could recommend.

Price Drop

Price drop.
Brooks is now on my SteamRoller.
Nitto seatpost will be set aside for another bike.
Tires went to my Gunnar. I wanted something unknobby to clear fenders for the winter.

cheers.

i thought i would comment on how bad my photos are. i was reading some other post about bike-photo-ing, and i'm breaking all kinds of rules here.
no wonder i nicked named this "The Unsalable Trek". the photos are *
anyway - since i've pulled the seatpost and seat from the deal, I'll get another seatpost and "ask-hatchet" on there and get some photos. ..... soon. the temps tanked, and hanging out in the garage is awful.... and i started working on this Meile ... Miele ..... me lay you lay, whatever. always wanting to use that quote from the MASH movie.

half heated winter project. I should offer it up for sale....... or donate it, more likely.

another bump -
just a reminder I'm willing to sell just the frameset. The price will drop when I remove the headset for a bike I'm hoping to get in April. .... if you don't need a headset.....
of course, it's tough to compete with free bikes.....
i mean, besides making my unsalable-TREK free.....which I haven't decided to do....

not so cheery.....

sounds good!

just to double note, the photos show a Brooks saddle and NITTO seatpost. I've pulled those when I dropped the price - but I did stick on new GATOR skins. Just haven't got to getting new pics up.
if all works out - we can work out the rest.

cheers!
