This is actually going to be my not-too-serious 'race bike'. Everyone is on discs and carbon but I have two decent sets of 120mm wheels and three WI freewheels. It'll work well enough to go mess around 4-5 weekends a year. I also can't wait to put 32mm Pasela's and regular road calipers back on my Steamroller.

Today I am so proud of my daughter.

Sunday morning she hugged me and with a tear in her eye, turned and walked through the security gate at the airport in Atlanta. This morning she landed 9000 miles away in New Zealand to study at Victoria University in Wellington (think Lord of the Rings) for six months.

To pick up and go literally half way around the world like that takes guts and she made it happen all by herself - worked to raise the money, applied, booked travel, found housing - all on her own.

To be honest, I'm a little jealous.

Had a good session at the track. Tried out a new position with my handlebars a bit lower, was very nice, much more vroom-vroomy.

Today I paid off Captial One. Had that credit card for more than half my life. Good riddance.

@Mumonkan, look up user @beechnutC23. He is a personal friend of mine in Montreal. His son owns a bike shop downtown and rents bikes. Riding around > walking around IMO.

C&L Cycle in Montreal.

They have two stores in Montreal, the store at 978 Rachel St. East, near Lafontaine Park, is the one that does the bike rentals. I'm heading there today myself, my son has finished tuning my Marinoni so I'm going to pick it up (and bring him home for Mardi Gras dinner!)

514 523-0330 if you want to call ahead and check availability. They have great city bikes in their house brand (Bassi), perfect for touring Montreal.

I'm doing that thing where I'm not riding enough so I compensate by shopping for bike parts I don't need.

It doesn't help that I'm in the midst of building an N+1. I've spent tons of time picking out a few colored accent parts without it becoming a trainwreck. I think I've got it mostly sorted out. Restraint is key.

Today I rode my bike to work again. It takes just as long as driving, plus I can use it to justify unhealthy choices later in the day.

Today I froze.

Tuesday night: Strong winds, severe thunderstorm watch most of the night, a few semi severe storms rolled through here, 3 tornadoes touched down in the SW part of the state. 56°F
Wednesday night: Lighter winds, snow mixed with an icy twist to it. 27°F - feels like 8°F

I am so glad I don't have to deal with CA's BS smog crap any more -- I had a hell of a time with a engine swapped Mk2 Golf that I loved dearly.. The car would pass smog with flying colors but would ultimately fail because of visual I got to the point of having to pay the smog tech's to look the other way but then CA came down even harder on modified cars a few years back which resulted in the sale of my car.

And at the end of the day, the newer motor that I had swapped in ran way better and was a lot more efficient in so many ways..

Le Sigh.

STI's are hard though, so many of them were modded because they are incredible cars with so much potential.

Further hindering my efforts are sellers pretending to themselves that I dont know what a catalytic converter is and their car's lack there of them upon visual inspection.

Last night I cleaned the drivetrain on my road bike. Today I did 35 miles and got a bunch of Strava trophies. Got 57 and 31 all-time on a couple segments I ride frequently, which felt pretty sweet. So many strong riders out here that I feel badass when I can break into the top 100. I'm not sure cleaning my chain made me that much faster, but I'm willing to believe it did.

Yup! As you guessed, mine was an '05 STi, modded, and sold right before the 6 year mandatory smog mark. It now resides in Nevada.

Power aside, I really enjoyed how the car looked, handled, and delivered power to the ground. Not to mention that deep boxer engine sound through cat-less Ti exhaust.

CA smog no longer requires a tailpipe test now but visual and OBD II check now with sniffer at test technicians digression. Neither of which my old STi and prospective craigslist STi's/ WRX's would've passed.

I've pretty much gotten to a point in my life where I can't be bothered to completely revert an STi to stock every other year for the man.

So, replacing BB and cranks with square taper action, or you gonna squeeze some new cotters up in there?
