Nice to find an informative thread when researching, particularly one that's several years old and not a zombie! So how can you tell if a frame is a Billato built? The sticker? (researching this still).

Came back to this to update with my Concorde frame. Wasn't sure who the builder was. A forum member on Paceline said it was definitely Billato built. So I posted over on the Billato owner's facebook page and Roberto Billato responded saying they did make it. So I'm added this bike to this thread to help others searching in the future.
I'm also throwing in a completed picture of the last Giordana I've had built up. This one turned out really sweet and the few rides I got in on it before the snows began were quite fun.

I purchased a 1987 or 1988 (I think) Greg Lemond frame on eBay ten or twelve years ago and built the bike using a variety of Super Record (rear derailleur and seat post), Record (crank and Italian thread bottom bracket). New Record shift leavers, Chorus brakes, Mavic wheels laced to Dura Ace hubs with six speed cluster, Cinelli bars, Speedplay zero pedals, and Vetta saddle. I like to ride this bike, so I did not want to compromise on braking power, gear range, or the pedals that I use on my other bikes. I have other, more period correct components that I can use if I want to enter a vintage event. This appears from the decals to be a frame that Billato built for Lemond as a tribute to his 1986 Tour de France win, since there is no mention on the decals of more recent wins. I was trying to include photos but, since I have not yet posted ten messages on this forum, I appear to be prevented from doing so.

Disraeli Gears
The (probably) Billato frame that I have is another Ten Speed Drive Guerciotti, the GLX (SLX) model from 1984, with chromed fork and mostly chrome chain stays on both sides -- unremarkable compared to a lot of the beautiful stuff pictured, but the attention to detail is about the best in my stable, for sure. Slightly better than a 1984 Motobécane Team Champion (last year for French manufacture, which is still blingier because the whole rear end is chromed, along with the fork) and equal to a 1983 Serotta Club Special. Funny that all 3 of these are from 1983-1984, and are the newest ones in my collection. I guess that's my personal high-water mark for "manufacturing excellence", though I do have older ones that are, it has to be said, have and show more "hand craft" (basically all of English origin) dating back through the 70s to the 50s.

Just picked this up a couple of weeks ago. It's an early 1980's Cramerotti. Guissepe Cramerotti was an Italian racer who retired to Canada and opened a shop called La Bicicletta in Vancouver, BC. He had frames made by Billato in Italy, then finished them here in Canada and sold them under his own Cramerotti brand. They were medium- to high-end bikes, depending on the model. This is a medium-level bike, i'm guessing. It came to me with a mishmash of components, Campagnolo hubs, 105 RD, Campagnolo FD, Record downtube shifters, and Modelo brakes and levers. A friend had a complete Campagnolo Chorus groupset so i'm going to rebuild it with that.

Status report on the Cramerotti... Campagnolo set fully disassembled, cleaned, polished, re-assembled, and installed. Found the seatpost that came with the set is a Record/Super Record post and 27.2mm dia, and I need 26.6. Found a 26.6 Chorus post on eBay that matches the rest of the components so picked that up... Awaiting its arrival now. Frame sandblasted and powdercoated in gunmetal metallic grey... The colour came out way better than I had hoped.

While I know Guerciotti used multiple contractors for their frames, here's a question. Would they (or any of the big Italians) have contracted their "entry level", (i.e. Aelle, Chromor, etc) frames to the same builders or would they have gone to a second-tier group for those frames?

I can add something actually branded with [something that I believed is] the Billato logo [but this has NOT been confirmed]: this chrome fork that will live a second (or maybe 3rd) life on a Bianchi-built Puch Mistral SLX.
It's sort of a mixed-up mash-up but for such a diversified builder of other brands it's kind of poetic justice...or something...anyhow, a nice fork from very skilled builders.

TSD imported, Billato built LeMond and Guerciotti
A Guerciotti SLX and LeMond TSX, both imported by Ten Speed Drive. Both are dream bikes, bought for a song.
- The Guerc is built with 10s Campy Downtube Triple. That top tube sticker hides a nasty dent. I slapped a sticker on it and have ridden it since 1999ish.
- The LeMond is my Fixed-for-Road bike. The original owner artificially steepened the head tube (ie front end crash). It rides straight and it has very mild TT and DT compression so what the heck I keep riding it.
- The Guerc is built with 10s Campy Downtube Triple. That top tube sticker hides a nasty dent. I slapped a sticker on it and have ridden it since 1999ish.

I purchased it as frame several years ago and rode it as a single-speed. Built some wheels and switched out the drivetrain over the winter.
It had a Campy headset and a Shimano bottom bracket when I got it. Built up with a similar combination (mish-mash) of parts, i.e., Dura Ace FD, Shimano 600 RD, Shimano 600 crank, Campy hubs and seatpost, etc.
The brakes are Nashbar, but I like them!
