What's next? After gravel, what's the NEXT BIG THING?

Notices
Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

What's next? After gravel, what's the NEXT BIG THING?

Oh my god, you're right! The next big thing in cycling is redneck animal shooting! For only $3,499.99 I can sell you a bear with a rifle and a Confederate flag, guaranteed to put motivation in your sprint.

I think Biathlons, done on gravel bikes instead of skis, might be fun. Could be done year-round in the South.

Hopefully it isnt because of the stars and bars joke, but guessing it is.

I understand how it can be tough to acknowledge and laugh at the shortcomings of the area you live. It helps me to know that everything is a tradeoff and compromise and that is especially true when it comes to where you live.

In Canada we often have to deal with locals who are extremely apologetic.

A lot (most?) Nordic ski trails are gravel roads. I ride some of them in dryland season. They look better in the winter.

Funny how you never see MTB'ers talk about packing heat or being assaulted by animals or people in the actual woods but it sure is a problem for gravel riders all of a sudden. Since most gravel riders are ex-roadies it makes all the sense since they all love the drama.

Only a C&V roadie would carry a wheelgun (despite the obvious pun) Any modern roadie would want a stainless semi auto in an aero carbon fiber holster.

So what would be a good name for cycling biathlon? Bikathlon?

I've seen several bears while riding on gravel roads. Never saw one MTBing. I've seen 2 or 3 in an area I've hiked in for years and never seen one from the trail there.

Not that you need a gun for Cascade bears.

Is this true? Sad if so. I don't own a MTB because what you describe is the only kind of riding for one around here. My experience of MTB is renting them, and riding remote, wild trails. I always thought I was being entitled, not being able to want to ride a MTB in urban areas.

What is that? It's the perfect answer to a question I had the other day. What would the bike that Conan the Barbarian rides look like.

It's just really fantastic.

Sorry man.. I'm out. Just visualize what you would look like riding that thing. All you need to complete the mental image is a pair of rubber boots.

A lot of sheep farmers are going to get jealous...

Until texting gets treated like the DUI level offense it is, I see no reason for gravel to be supplanted by something else. It's a pragmatic choice to get good miles and good scenery without being run over.

So most bikepackers carry full main triangle bags. Why on earth do you need all those bosses inside the triangle? I can see you needing the bosses on the top tube near the seat tube and head tube so you can run 2 bolt on bags on the top but it's missing that.

yeah! I grew up in the ATV three wheeler era. Those look a bit less tip happy!

Make them front wheel driven electric and you won't need the mountain either.
