11 speed Ultegra cassette... down to 10?
I tried looking around for an answer to this, but because of the terms needed it results in a lot of conversion discussion.
So I have a CAAD-9 with Rival, and I just blew a spoke on my front wheel. My rear brake track I found was basically concave, so I went looking for new wheels. Found a local set of Ultegra wheels for a good price that have an 11 speed cassette. The cassette is in really good shape, so it would be a pity to not be able to use it. However, my shifters are 10 speed.
Is it possible to drop off one of the sprockets and run it as 10?
*If I need some more information here, just let me know.

No, not well. The cable pull and cog spacing for 11-speed are different than 10-speed.

not really the spacing between the cogs are different just chuck your existing cassette and chain on you will need an addition spacer for 10 speed on 11 speed freehub I think its 1.8mm.

Blech. My existing cassette is pretty beat, it's the original. No way to Frankenstein this it seems? Am I looking at a wasted Ultegra cassette and buying a new one?

No, there is not a good way to make this index well with your shifters. Do not try. Pop the cassette on eBay or something, or throw it in a dusty corner until you have need for an 11 speed cassette.

Again, no. Pass the 11 speed cassette on to a friend. Also, I don't know how you can tell the 11 speed cassette is in "really good shape." Could be worn out but clean.... Get a new chain for the new cassette.

Well, instead of buying a new 10-speed cassette you could buy new 11-speed shifters and a new rear derailleur and then use the Ultegra cassette.

Thanks for the help to everyone.
My friend found the deal on the wheels and his wife has an 11 speed. I'll donate it to their bike parts storage as a finder's fee.

If it's any comfort, 10-speed 105 and Tiagra cassettes are quite reasonably priced these days.
