The best brewery in Rhode Island (by my opinion, at least), Long Live Beerworks, used to be 3 blocks from my house. They moved about a mile and a half further away to a MUCH larger space, so most of what I'm doing is riding my bike over there!

As Canadian craft breweries increase market share every year, there's no shortage of breathtaking beers to sample. Some real crap too.

My red wine choices are mostly from small producers in central and southern Italy. Primativo, Aglianico, Nero D'Avola can be found at great prices. Table wines with no preservatives or chemical flavoring. Spain has similar products.

Oddly, there's some spectacular bubbly whites and Muscats being produced in my neighbourhood in NS. We've got great soil and we're at the same latitude as Champagne in France. Look up Benjamin Bridge/Gaspereau/Lightfoot & Wolfville.

I have a thing for shochu, a Japanese liquor made from rice or sweet potatoes - if the former a little like sake but distilled and stronger. Rice variety is hard to get here in the States, but my brother in law brings me back a bottle from his occasional trips to see his family in Kyoto. Otherwise my go-to is Four Roses bourbon.

Living in Ann Arbor, MI, we have pretty quick access to Windsor, ON and points east in Ontario, such as Sarnia, London, Stratford, Toronto and Niagara. We've found that the wine world in southern Ontario has improved greatly (Pelee Island and Niagara) in the past 20 years and that we can just pop into a Windsor LBO and find good examples, such as Inniskillin, which should have global recognition IMHO. But I haven't seen much in craft beers! Unibroue has some decent distribution in USA, which seems to challenge their status as a craft house. Seems to me that when a craft beer company becomes big enough it becomes a BBFCO (Big Beer Factory Corporate Organization), and no longer a craft house.

Can you name some of the craft beers you have in mind? We will have a trip or two to Stratford this summer.

My wife and I visited several Kentucky bourbon distilleries last fall, but Four Roses was our favorite, for the tour and the bourbon. The master distiller, Brent Elliot, and several of the staff, are cyclists.

The Bourbon Country Burn was where I learned about him. I rode last year, but after burning myself out on the first day, I was in no shape to make the distance out to Four Roses. We stayed an extra day and drove there on Monday. We were still able to get one of the signed bottles of Single Barrel they made up for the ride. Unfortunately, they didn't have any of the Four Roses team jerseys like the staff people wore. If you are planning on doing the Bourbon Country Burn next year, enter early. They raised the entry from 600 to 1000 riders and still sold out in a few weeks for this year's ride. I had a good time but for me it was more of a bucket list ride, not an annual thing. The area was beautiful, the hills were challenging, and the ride was pretty well organized. And the evening bourbon tasting and entertainment was an added benefit.

OK, more than a C&V cyclist, I'm scooter trash. Harley's, flying colors (at one time in my life), the usual type you'd expect to see on Main Street during Daytona Bike Week.

Which means, I'll drink anything if it's cheap enough and/or somebody else is buying. Yuenging and Guiness are my preferred, but I'll happily drink Budweiser without giving it a second thought.

Yes, I've got some refined tastes regarding liquor and wine, but I usually manage to choke them down in favor of whatever will give me a good weekend, cheaply.

I'm not in Ontario and we have some silly interprovincial trade barriers for alcohol between provinces so I can't get any selection here. A larger Toronto brewer is Mill Street which makes quality accesible beers, nothing radical, good Stout and a nice organic lager. In Nova Scotia, Tatamagouche makes some amazing beers.

My fave beer of all time is Heady Topper, an unpasteurized double IPA out of Stowe, Vermont. They make only one beer and people have to line up at the brewery to get it, no distribution. It's a huge cult brew and deserves the reputation.

Iniskillen is a decent winemaker, I've followed them for a couple of decades. Decent value.

^ had a heady topper tonight but poured it into a glass as it's a beautiful beer (heresy, i know). it doesn't suck. i think they also make focal banger which is fab as well.

iniskillin makes some nice dessert wines.

everything unibroue makes is top notch, even if it's not my style. beautiful, game-changer beers.

besides the heady topper, had a pizza port swami's ipa which is a go-to west coast style ipa.

I like Murphy's in Nitro cans when I can find some. A good Irish Stout. You need to play some The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem loudly when you drink them.
