Peugeot identification and help with BB model fitting
Hi guyz im new here and curently am on a new project to restore, with new pieces on an old peugeot. I failed to find identify it , im a canadian resident , the brake were made in england, i do not know if thats any help. its a 54cm frame the BB width is 68 mm , the fork as 21mm , seatpost seems to be either 23-24mm. The bike was originaly blue he was painted , i am currently sanding it. Thanks for the help

This frame was manufactured in France, during February, 1977. The Aztec style lugs indicate a hi-tensile steel, base model. Lack of chrome on fork tips would typically indicate an A08 but this may be a repaint. It could also have started out as a U08, U09 or UO10, if it's repaint. Regardless, they are all the same frame, except for cosmetic differences. The brakes are non-OEM,

The lack of decals is a bit confusing and makes it hard to determine the year (the serial number likely offers no help) (edit to say kudos to T-Mar for knowing otherwise!) However, given the lack of chrome and the head lugs, As well as the lack of braze-ons for lights or fenders, it likely is an AO-8, the lower end of Peugeot’s ten speed line in the 70s. However! Many of us here think that the « Tube special Allégé » Peugeots are wonderful riders. I bought an AO-8 and was so impressed I rebuilt it from the ground up, adding modern touches as I went. It is a truly wonderful bike. The folks here have seen this pic a million times by now, but it was worth every penny.

FYI, your bicycle is not an AO8 but the more rare AE8, which was basically an AO8 frame with the addition of rack eyelets on the upper seat stays and a factory included rack and fenders. Unlike the higher UE8 frame, it did nor have a factory supplied lighting system and therefore lacked the brazed-on generator boss and brazed-on lighting harness clips, in addition to the chromed fork blade tips

yep i confirm there was no chrome on the fork , it was originaly all blue, i did sanded it almost completly, i will repaint it. so it would be a 77'. Any idea of the BB i would need to get for this ? this will be french i suppose ? and what about the wheels is it 650 or 700 ? thanks guyz you're awesome.

Aw, T-Mar. Note that my bike has braze-on shift bosses, two sets of brazed-on bottle stops, and Campagnolo cable guides brazed on to the bottom bracket, and (although it is hard to see) all of the fender and rack mounts were replaced with M5 standard fittings. The rack mounts also were added at the same time. In short, I stripped the frame, took it to Haulin’ Colin (Seattle’s version of Gugie), and turned that beautiful old frame into a modern bike. And as for the dynamo, it’s in the front hub. :-)

The circonference is aprox 39mm X 68mm width. Its a big headache right now .. but im sure ill love it at the end haha ! Your guess would lead me to phil instead of orange?

+1. While there are still some specialty companies catering to the square taper crowd, most modern cranksets use oversize spindles and they never bothered to manufacture compatible bearings for obsolete French threaded frames.
