Bike Build Help (gearing)
Hey Guys, (First post ever)
so i need some input on my current bike build...
Im building a K2 Cheyanne Hardtail (16" Dirt Jumper) and my question is how to do the gearing. I want to run 3 speeds in the back and a double ring up front.
Ill switch the double ring manually when needed but i want to shift the rear with the front 3-speed shifter.
- im using SRAM 9 speed cassette but ive removed all the rings except the 3 that are stuck together so i know my spacing will be fine. Im using a Shimano x4 rear derailer. i know that the pull will be different using the 3speed shifter but i should be able to adjust that correctly right?
im just looking for input before i go out and buy a wheelset and stuff cause if its not gonna work im gonna go single speed.

if you must... (and i don't see the point, but anyway)
Get old thumb-style friction shifters. Use these instead of an indexed front shifter, because you'll never get the throws to sync up with your cassette's spacing. Get an old derailer. Try to set the limit screws to keep the thing from derailing alot. Curse a lot, then go SS, b/c you certainly must realize that SS is your destiny regardless
