Lube or grease?

So right now on my brakepads I'm not sure if I should do any lube or grease?

I notice it makes a screech sound when I loosen the bolt as seen on the picture where the mutli tool is on.should I put lube or grease on the bolt?

if it feels crunchy, add a dab of grease on the thread. I'd suggest medium strength threadlocker (blue loctite) as it smoothens out the threading action without the fear of loosening that grease induces. Make sure you do not smear the rim or the brake pad with grease.

Last time I checked, grease is lube. Maybe you mean grease or oil?

Until one of the experts tells me otherwise, I grease pretty much all threads before assembly. This is mainly to permit disassembly later assuming that the bike will be used in any weather.

I usually drip a drop of whatever oil/lube I have on the bench (I don't use dry stuff) on my pad bolts/nuts. I've struggled to remove too many corroded pad mountings to spread that plague. Andy

Grease may be a lubricant, but you wouldn't put grease on your chain, would you

Depends. Chains have been shipped with a packing grease years back and many never would clean it off. The stories of tour riders (and early wet season racers) using grease because of the miles in such bad rain are well known to those who read past stories. These days not as likely, but I'd rather use grease then nothing at all. (Which I see too often at work on bikes coming in for service). Andy
