Do those Basils have a stiffener to help maintain their shape? They are gorgeous, BTW!

Yes. The pair on the bike above are empty. They have stiffeners on all sides, they ship with the side and bottom stiffeners out of them so they will ship almost flat. So far I have been very, very pleased with them. Check back in about ten years for the long term test.

I just purchased this bag on ebay for about $40 shipped. Has anyone ever seen this brand before? The only marking the seller mentions is VTG Overhill and a google and BF search of those words yields nothing.

Carradice Barley on my Raleigh Sports. Bought from Wiggle in the UK. Best price I could find; still paid more for the bag than I did for the bike.

I'm on the low budget side... so I tend to look at military surplus bags... and I came across this on Etsy! (way out of my budget =) but a good lead on do-it-yourself people

EDIT: Don't know why the link didn't work, here it is: https://www.etsy.com/listing/36033830...e-panniers-bag

Bet everyone thought this had died but I saw a vintage Karrimor on the back of a friend's Hetchins the other day and I fell in love. It was in almost-new condition, despite dating from the 60s, and by Japanese standards was a snip at $90... by any standards, I shouldn't wonder.

Anyway, my interest kindled, I found your photos here, Neal, and was wondering if you'd be kind enough to post a rear shot of your Karrimor...

This is my old Carradice - 1960s in pretty good nick:

That looks like a nicely made bag and a good size but I don't like the huge oval badge. I'd have that off as soon as I'd paid me money.

Carradice saddle bags are excellent, and I think they're as good as they've always been, except for the naff brand labeling they use these days. Whatever happened to the subtlety of the 60s? When I buy a bag I want the money to go on making the bag, not on making 2 labels advertising the person whose pocket I am putting that money in.

Do we need the brand twice on the flap?

For this reason, I try to find vintage Carradice and Karrimor saddlebags but it's hard to find them in very good condition.

Here's my World Voyageur wearing two of my own designs. The Saddle bag is a take on an old Raleigh bag and the Panniers are a take on the Brooks Brick Lane panniers.

I've made and sold these in the past but am currently out of commission as I have no space to set up my Sewing Machine. As soon as I get some space I'll be taking orders again.

I keep telling you guys:

1) $10 eBay Dooney & Bourke Saddle Bag purse -- water resistant and extremely well built. Sold for $280 during the 80's. Holds as much as a small trunk -- large bottle, tools, tires, camera, windbreaker, etc.
2) $7 Minoura bottle cage bracket.
