Looks very interesting. It is fall color time. What could be better then getting into that part of the country? 70+ If the weather is really good we could stay in the area for a week looking at fall colors. Stay at lodge or in RV park. Isn't there an "up coming event" board on this forum where this should also be posted?? Want to make sure I can find this post again amongst the 100's of posts being put up.
BTW, Len S. of Berkley, MI, I am a Michigan native and back around 1972, my then-girlfriend-now-wife and I bought matching Mercier Road cycles in Berkley, MI at a shop if I recall correctly was Smith Cyclery. We toured on them in Michigan and Ontario, and rode them across country on our honeymoon to settle in Boston.
One other memory of Berkley. I grew up on the East Side of Detroit, and when we were pre-teens, my friend asked his father if he would drive us to the Berkley Theater to see a movie. The father, a Detroit Police Detective replied "Berkley?...That's half way to Chicago!" Was funny at the time.

Len,
As Jim said the post will get bumped up fairly often. Surprisingly, we have learned that a stickied post gets ignored more than read, in most cases. Seems that these 50+ Ride threads do the trick fairly well. Unfortunately we won't make this one, y'all have a good time.

Dittoes to what Miss Kenton wrote. The Kentons and I have attended two Fifty-Plus Annual Rides, Watkins Glen in 2010 and Boston in 2013.
I just visited the Pennsylvania Ride website, and 34 riders are registered, some by teams, but no Team Kenton, and no BF screen names. Maybe we could register with our screen names in parentheses, or as Team Bikeforums (...?Team Fifty-Plus...?Over-the-Hill-Gang--bicycling double entendre intended--or what), or as both. Some of the other team names are Bicycle Times, Dirt Rag Magazine, Fitness Center; and Events Unlimited and None (one member each).

I am now registered. No idea yet where I'll stay, how I'll get there or whether my wife will be able to go, but I'm in.

- schedule time off from work: two driving days, 2-3 days for Ride(s) and to hang out [return driving day is Columbus (holiday) Day]
- train with winter commuting, then intensify in mid March, and continue to train
- ask Family permission to go away for one week (they probably would not want to go)
- arrange accommodations [I use the AAA Regional Guidebooks.]
- pre-ride bike check at LBS
- rent car if necessary
- map driving route (~500 miles)
- pack
- Register for event [Even for professional conferences, I usually register on-site, in case of exigencies, but I plan to be in. The Pennsylvania Ride does offer a $10 discount before August 1.]
So forgive me if I’m obsessively posting about nice-weather riding.
Accumulation as of 4 PM and 6PM 2/9/15, since Tuesday 2/3:
The snow doesn't get dirty on the road, because it is coninuously covered by new snow, and nobody is driving. Light snow is predicted until 4 AM tomorrow, and more snow predicted for Thursday. The subways and Commuter Rail are closed until probably Wednesday, 2/11.

Yeah, I've never been and never intend to become that organized. I'll be there. That's about all I need to know at this point.

As a veteran of four Fifty-Plus Annual Rides, I had made up this (updated) Preparation Schedule for myself as a working professional with a family….

I was perusing the Northeast Rides and Events subforum and came upon this thread, ”Bicycling Magazine Fall Classic,” presumably our proposed venue. There are several descriptions of the 2013 event, with generally favorable reviews.

Different magazines. Bicycle Times is associated with Dirt Rag which also has an event at a different location at Raystown Lake.
Bicycle Times and Dirt Rag couldn't be more different from Bicycling.

Bicycle Times Magazine celebrates your everyday cycling adventure. That’s why we’re bringing cyclists together to share an adventurous weekend of riding under a canopy of spectacular fall foliage for Bicycle Times Adventure Fest at Lake Raystown Resort in Entriken, Pennsylvania, the weekend of October 9-11, 2015.
I plan to go to this event to celebrate my 60th birthday. If any other 50+ would also like to go, maybe we can meet up sometime during the weekend.

I haven't been around for quite some time but I'm still riding!

Raystown Lake is a fantastic place! 30 plus miles of undeveloped lake! WE took our kids there when they were teenagers. They asked where's the boardwalk and amusement rides? They predicted our vacation would suck!
As adults today, it's the only place they want to go back to. They had soooo much fun there!
The kayak/canoe/paddle groups do some kind of event around the same time of year, so it should be an interesting crowd!

The 70-Mile Mixed Surface Ride at Bicycle Times Adventure Fest Presented by Trek.
This looks like a good candidate for my 60th birthday ride. My Zukas has 32mm tires which should work just fine.

While I’d like to go and meet numerous forum members firsthand, it’s over 154 miles “as the crow flies” from my house, so I’ll be unable to make it.

Sounds like a good ride (The One Helluva Ride in Chelsea, MI, July 11). Glad the Fans and Jim were able to connect. Looking forward to meeting some of you good folks in October in Pennsylvania.
Thanks for the note, BD, and I have posted my ride description in reply to Road Fan’s. I continue to look forward toward the Pennsylvania ride, and as Road Fan and I discussed, it likely will be (at least my) premier ride of the year. I will post later to that Pennsylvania Ride thread, at least to bump it up.

When this first came up, I was thinking I would like to do it. It's only about a 6 hr drive for me, so that would have made it quite doable.
However, we have a wedding to go to in Quebec that weekend, so I'm afraid I'm out.
Maybe next time.

Sorry you can't make it, Dan.
We are trying to figure out the best travel plans. Drive for days or possibly take Amtrak to a point and rent a car. Any tips on taking a bicycle on Amtrak?

I just visited the Ride website and made note that they offer road and mixed surface routes of varying distances, but I couldn’t find a schedule by day. I nearly entirely ride on roads, and I’m bringing my carbon fiber road bike, and my beater, although quality mountain bike, mainly if it rains. The 61 mile road ride appeals to me, but I may try a mixed surface ride. Socialization with other Fifty-Plus Riders though, will strongly dictate my choices.
