Charles Pickett Jr. Gets 40 years

Charles Pickett Jr. just got sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing 5 cyclists on a group ride. He was doped up and operating a motorized vehicle. His rep says 40 years is excessive and exceeds guidelines.

I have no empathy for the guy. 5 dead because he was illegally in operating a vehicle while under the influencehe of some kind of drug. 5 dead. Just like that. Just have no empathy for him. Very likely he will die in prison, too.

Here is a link to the story. Finally, a judge with the guts to do the right thing.

https://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo...sentenced.html

When it was time to speak, the convicted defendant said, "I'm very sorry." Those have to be the most useless words in the English language because those words won't bring back the dead and won't ever erase the pain that the survivors must endure every day.

I don't believe in Hell, but if there was a Hell, it would have a special place reserved for people like Mr. Pickett.

Seems like actual time served is usually less than the nominal sentence. I just hope it's long enough that he never gets out. Not a lot of satisfaction for the victims, friends and family in this, but then, there never is.
