New Shimano Freewheels. What cog combinations?
I know that in the golden age there where cog boards, but alas, that ship has sailed...
I was wondering what combinations can be built up with the present production Shimano offerings?
Right now I'm trying to figure out a 6 speed indexing drive train based around a 14-28 free wheel. 14-16-18-21-24-28
in seven speed I've found 12-13-15-18-21-24-28. and 14,16,18,20,22,24,34
Is it possible to get a 14-16-18-20-22-24 on a 6 speed freewheel body?
or a 12-13-15-18-20-22-24 on a 7 speed body?
Or should I be looking at the Sunrace freewheels?

I don't know about 14-24, but Sunrace has a 13-25. I am running a Sunrace 13-28 and think it works well.
Is the freewheel with the 11-tooth cog from DNP? I have not seen a current Shimano freewheel with an 11-tooth cog. If DNP, I would be wary of the quality, as the reviews appear to be all over the map.

Your right. that should be a 12 instead of 11. Are the Sunrace freewheels compatible with Shimano indexing?

Last I knew, this is what's available from Shimano:
6-speed: 14-28, 14-34
7-speed: 13-28, 14-28, 14-34
I wouldn't want a 14-16-18-20-22-24 freewheel even if it were available. The biggest jumps are at the fast end of the cassette, where you want close gears, and the closest jumps are at the bottom, where you don't need them.
@bark_eater, it sounds like you first need to figure out what gear range you want, then pick your chainrings and freewheel to achieve it. An 11-28 and 14-24 give very different top and bottom gears, given the same chainrings.
6-speed: 14-28, 14-34
7-speed: 13-28, 14-28, 14-34

Who makes a freewheel with a 12t first cog???
Shimano used to offer both 11-28t and 11-34t 7s freewheels, but not in the past decade.
I've seen 7s cassettes with 11-13-15-18-21-24-28t, but haven't ever seen a modern 7s freewheel with 12-13-15-18-21-24-28t
SunRace makes good 7s freewheels in 13-25t and 13-28t.
Shimano used to offer both 11-28t and 11-34t 7s freewheels, but not in the past decade.

I have two recent Shimano freewheels on bikes.
One is the HG37, which is 13,15,17,19,21,24,28, made in Singapore.
The other is the MF-TZ21, which is 14-16-18-20-22-24-28, made in China.
The difference in construction is that on the HG37, all the cogs are on the freewheel body, which makes them all removable. On the MF-TZ21, only the first five cogs are on the freewheel body, with the sixth cog pinned to the fifth cog (like an outrigger), and the seventh cog pinned to the sixth cog. As a result, the fifth, sixth and seventh cogs are one piece.

Apparently there is such a thing as a "SunRace MFR2A 6DP 14-24T 6 Speed Freewheel" available on ebay at least. I believe its 14-16-18-20-22-24
