1975 Motobecane Grand Jubilee Mixte project

This 1975 Motobecane Grand Jubile Mixte was found on the Davenport IA Facebook Market page by brewerkz in December and posted to "Are you looking for one of these!?". It sat for a couple of months, and then I found someone who could pick it up and store it for a few weeks.
I've just gotten it home and I'm going to post the before pics here and more later on.
The original RD was replaced at some point with a Duopar, and the downtube shifters replaced with bar end shifters. The brakes are Weinmann 610 front and 750 rear centerpulls. The cranks are Stronglight with 40 and 52 rings (one of the crank bolt caps is missing). The wheels are Weinmann concave with Normandy hubs. The paint overall is in nice shape with only a few touch-ups needed. The pedals on the bike are not the original Atoms and have only "Made in France" and "03 79" stamped on them. I'll have to post the pics in multiple posts.

Excited to see how this comes out! The level of finish on Motobecanes seems so far beyond what Peugeot and Gitane were producing at the time.

These old Grand Jubile mixties are neat bikes to find. I have one that matches my men's GJ, complete with all the original components. I bought it a couple years ago for my wife so we can have matching GJs. The combination of Huret Jubilee components hung on a partially Reynolds 531 frame with Nervex lugs makes it a winner in my book. I also replaced the long cage Jubilee RD on my bike with a Huret Duopar just so I could fit a larger 6-spped cluster on the bike. Here's a couple pics:

'75 Grand Jubile, I swapped out the long cage Jubilee RD for a Huret Duopar and larger rear sprockets to give me a wider range

motogeek Your GJ's are really nice! I really love the color of these bikes!
Since mine came with a Duopar, I had my first experience overhauling one of those yesterday. I might end up with a wider 6 speed freewheel on mine too.

Nice bike, looks like its pretty clean and all there. I've been riding one from a different year, same color, for 6 months now and really like it.The translucent red with gold striping and letters works well.

Motobecane Grand Jubilee

Purely by chance, I ended up owning three of the men's Grand Jubilee's in the red color - all in great condition. Two are 23" and one is 25". Just starting in on the restoration of one of the 23" models. Something very special about these models!

Looks great; nice condition and smart component selection. Do you think the 700C concave rims were fitted some time after purchase? Not sure if these came with 27" or 700c wheels.
I have 1976 GJ frame in the same colorway that I'm building up as a townie. One thing I have noticed is that the contrasting paint at the seatstay cap was dropped for the 1976 model year. Still 3 tubes 531, however.

The 1975 Catalog shows the OE rims as 27" Weinmann HP, knurled sides. Yes, mine has 700C concaves fitted later.
I found when overhauling hubs that whoever rebuilt the wheels mis-aligned DS vs NDS on the hubs. So, Normandy is upright from the DS, the Weinmann on the rims is inverted. I'm not going to rebuild to fix that.

I've done cleaning, rebuilding of bearings, a few touch-ups, and a bit of polish.
Here is where it stands today,

Nice progress and that rear derailleur is more versatile than the grand jubilee. Although not as pretty.

Thanks,
I found the video online to overhaul the Duopar, since it was my first. This one has the early mounting bolt which has a locking screw which threads in from behind the hanger. I'm already taking advantage of it's versatility, changed to a 6 speed freewheel with a bit wider gearing.

That is beautiful. I have never seen one, didn't even know they existed. That would be a dream bike for my wife, and a perfect companion to my '74 black/red Grand Record. Let me know if you ever let it go! (Meanwhile wife has a Bob Jackson mixte, also a pretty rare bird, as is she.)

Glad to see it found a good home, the rack and fenders look great on it.

That's coming along very nicely. Another option would be to change the handlebars to an upright position. I totally agree with 52telecaster's comments about the Duo Par vs the Jubilee. I put a titanium Duo Par on my custom Veloce i had built for me in the mid '80s and have loved it ever since. The Jubilee is quite the jewel, tho.

I might have shown this before, but it's my custom built Veloce that I had built for me in around 1986 by John Stinsman in Allentown, PA. Paint job fades from Dark Rose Metallic at the top to Light Rose Metallic at the bottom

Another of my Moto Grand Jubiles, also a '75
Just for reference, in 1975 Motobecane also released the Grand Jubile in a silver/black combo. Both the mixte and the men's model were available. These are a couple I had, both in pretty nice condition. I sold the pair to a collector in California a few years ago.
