Which size for 177cm tall?

So, I'm 177cm tall and I have two options - Medium and Large when it comes to my next city/road bike.

The tube length on the Medium is 57.5cm and 60cm on the Large.

I'm being given mixed signals, so I'm not sure what the best option is.

The bike that I want only comes in Medium, but if I need Large I'll get something else.

Thanks.

Of your 2 size choices the medium would most likely be the most suited to your height at 177cm. I'm 172 cm and have both a 51 and a 54. You would probably be comfortable on a 54-57 size bike unless you have an abnormaly long torso or legs.

As far as I know, my legs aren't that long.

I was told by a friend of mine who is ~174cm that Medium can be too small for him.

My last bike (stolen) was the Norco Storm 7.1. The size was a 17 and I think it was perfect.

Can you tell me if that compares to the Medium or Large on the Cannondale 'Bad Boy'?

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the 'Bad Boy'. Take a look at some of the other sizing posts and you'll get some idea of what most people your size are riding and how tall people are that ride a large bike.

Here's some good reading for you and a link to the Competative Cyclist fit guide.

Oops. I was going to link to Norco's stats but somehow forgot..

https://www.norco.com/bikes/mountain...torm-71-forma/

Based on that, how does the Medium compare to the 17?

Also, can I ask you - is it better to have a bigger frame than you need or a smaller one?

I find that on my other bike, I can reach the handlebars quite easily while sitting straight.

Is it SUPPOSED to be that I have to lean forward more to be able to reach them?
